This thread and this content is going to draw a lot of one-post wonders. I rate RAS it.

Don't do this either way - this coming from someone who's been burnt from both ends.

I financed a car for a friend who was blacklisted. Less than one year later, he fell in arrears to the tune of R7000, and the bank was calling me to repossess the car. I paid the R7000, and took the car from him - from then on, I paid the instalments myself. Last year, I tried to sell the car but the seller's finance fell through the mat. Because he so much wanted the car, we came to an agreement where he would pay the instalments. Anyway, the end of that was that he had the car for 5 months, only paid for one month, and now I'm taking him to court for the rest.

So, don't do this either way, not for family, not for friends, not for ANYONE.

Off topic, but an update on this; last week, the Small Claims Court ruled in my favor and awarded me R6500 of the R8000 that this guy owed me. Unfortunately I could only claim a max of R7K thru the Small Claims Court, so I claimed for the loan that I had to take out to cover the arrears.

lol. Was listed myself at one stage. Was actually a good thing. Made me start to take better care of my finances.

It takes 2 years (from the date you've settled the amount) to get your name cleared...unless you were unfairly listed.

Getting more debt on your name is silly. Either save up the cash for the car or find other means of getting around for now until your name and finances are all clear.

I second that, I started working at 17 and had my first credit card (*spit*) at 18, was blacklisted a few months later , if you have bad credit sort that out first before you go and get deeper into ****, be a man ffs .

for those who are blacklisted and need assistance clearing their name(once the accounts paid in full) contact credit health as they charge a fee but can help with the removal of blacklist, garnish order and so on.

Went the same way - just got deeper and deeper into debt.

Because I was prompt on paying my credit card arrears, Blapsa generously allowed a larger overdraft every time...

...until I got sick and tired of paying a lot of money to them, took out a loan at DirectAxis, paid Blapsa off, and closed the stupid thing.

Get the yourself of the blacklist first before getting into more debt. Its not that expensive to have yourself removed from the list. Contact ITC or Experian, they can assist you on how to get it removed or even refer you to an attorney who can assist you. Otherwise wait 5 years and you will be automatically removed as a bad payer.

Hi DDV ;)

Shame, giving a credit card to an 18 year old guy should be classified as a predatory lending practice  Didn't you need a parental signature, under 21 and all?

Where can I get more info about the small claims court?
