Hi guys ,
My Telkom line has been down for almost two weeks and i am seriously considering the move to Neotel.

before i do though i would like to find out if anyone here has experience with gaming on this service and what the latency / packet loss looks like.

Thanks

Well I hope you don't get the call I just got...

Telkom will not be replacing the cables so can get ADSL.
My whole area is affected... more than 100 or so homes.

I cannot get adsl where I live, most of the WISPs do not cover my area either, so I gave Neotel a shot. What I can tell you is that their NeoBroadband LTE (I was surprised to see I have LTE coverage) is the best wireless experience I have had in 3 years.
I game on the 4mbps package. I mostly play WoW with about 200ms ping. Keep in mind this is still a wireless product so it will never be as reliable as copper, but I find it good enough.

Their FUP is also rather good, 400 GB on the 4mb option. Just keep in mind it is a 2 year contract.

This is true, but they do offer a R1,000 opt-out fee regardless of where you are in your contract. This is pretty good, as far as I'm concerned...

@einad5 Where are you from? If you have neotel LTE you should be able to get telkom too.

I am not sure who told you they had a R1000 opt-out fee but I can tell you that is not true. I was just quoted R8900 to "opt-out". I have the their mails to prove it.

I would seriously advise you to stay away from Neotel's LTE service. I have the 10Mbps service and it was the best thing ever. For the last two months I have been getting 3Mbps or less (with 1800ms pings to local servers) and they refuse to do anything about it and say it is within their spec. I am now stuck with this having to pay R1799 per month for a 3Mbps service and if I cancel I have to pay them R8900. Trust me, stay away as it is not just me having this exact same issue.
