bwana's point is that unless they offer services we can actually sign up for right now, they don't actually exist to us, and I agree with that. What use is it saying we have a SNO when can't make use of any services for them?

I know, I know.

I just get a kick out of saying 'imminent'. :p

What I would like to know is who exactly is getting service from neo. There must be some businesses/ISP's buying from them. Why is everyone so quiet about it.

Yes, but they use leased lines, metro ethernet and that kind of corporate stuff. No consumer services yet.

On paper any business model can look good. They should start making promises once they start delivering and have the infrastructure in place to actually start delivering on that promises

Neotel Neotel,

Sounds good but is it really?
When are we as consumers gonna get a chance to sign up or see their packages.

Accourding to their site they state and i Quote:

"We are currently deploying a nationwide, next-generation telecoms network which will gradually span more than 10,000 kms. Initially, in the first quarter of 2007, our network will reach Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban (for our wholesale and enterprise services). Our trial consumer services will initially be available in select suburbs of Johannesburg and Pretoria in July 2007, with additional suburbs and other major metros targeted for the following months. , Eventually, our network will expand to reach more than 80% of the country's population."

Now who is the trial consumers and why havent we heard anything about it. It just sounds like a bunch of hopeless promises.

Im just as angry and frustrated as you guys, but c'mon, Neotel is a NEW company/business. No new business starts off by producing the goods, it takes time. I think give them credit for taking on Telkom who have stolen billions from us over all these decades, and still cannot offer us anything worthwhile. At least Neotels intention is clear, and if their competitors offer better service first, well all the better for us.

I'm still in the mood for defending NeoTel! It has to be said that delays in service roll-out from them must have to do with the fact that ICASA held out on the 800Mhz spectrum in order for them to roll-out CDMA2000. From what peeps in JHB and PTA areas have been seeing and saying - they are carving up the streets laying down cable - so that can't be all for nothing.

As for no information as to pricing, shaping and caps - I think they would just be giving Telscum a head start as to how to re-shuffle their pricing model. We already now see Telscum throwing out more propaganda with their new low cost entry level telephone service.

I believe the less transparent they are concerning pricing at this time, the more shocked Telscum will be when they do launch it. They have to hold out I think till that damn SAT3 cable looses its "Telscum Only" tags. With Telscum still having the monopoly they can still rattle pricing cages as they have enough in their coffers to go into a pricing war. When Seacom lands - only then will the market really be open.....but aaaiii - then only :(

For now let me continue to hold onto my worn out arthritis ridden thumbs and continue to light a virtual candle a day for NeoTel.

But if your not sure on when you're gonna deliver dont give false hope and extend your dates every time,

It might cause potential clients to think that service wont be up to standard.

Yip its like gambling, betting on a horse that looks good in the beeld might just not be as goog on the race track,

Also if i remember correctly ICASA granted Neotel the 800MHZ band already in march this year and neotel also got the seacom cable but it would only be operational in 2009. Shoe still a long way to go.......

The betting odds is currently not in their favour

Neotel, the Microsoft of the South African telephony market, advertising services and features they never bring to fruition.

That's not true. We now have a SNO, Telkom SAT3 monopoly ends in November and Neotel are going to land Seacom.

yeah right and all of that has really made any difference so far..IMHO we are still worse off than before:D
