Okay, so I've spent today reading up on some of the developments over the past few months, and I have a question about Neotel, relating to this article from back when they launched.

According to the above Neotel will face an uphill battle trying to sign corporates onto its new and unproven network, as Telkom has a reputation of being pretty reliable, despite its other flaws.

So given all that, and please forgive my boundless optimism (Telkom/ICASA/DoC hasn't (yet) managed to cure me of that) how likely is it that Neotel might sell their international access to ISPs (especially IS) for resale as soon as they possibly can?

According to what I've read it seems like they already have some access operational (they're carrying int'l calls, right?), and I just know that there are people that will give them a try as an alternative to Telkom.

Bandwidth could be sold on a per-usage basis, so IS would only pay Neotel for as much as their users use.

As an added bonus, Neotel can demonstrate their performance and have some figures to lure corporates away with.

I know Neotel has had plenty of time to plan exactly when they will do what, but I'd like to know what everyone else thinks. And Neotel, if you're listening, sign me up. :D

Is this a joke?

How many times have you picked up the phone and not had a ringtone? Or have the internet go down?

I ask this assuming you're in a corporate setting, because whole different rules apply for home users. Corporates have SLAs to ensure good performance.

It seems like the ISP's are buying some bandwidth from Neotel, dual suppliers, kinda like a backup - mm , me is hoping this has nothing to do with the shoddy bandwidth received from IS lately

Well my main hope for all this is a reduction in bandwidth cost or a relaxing/lowering of caps.

I highly doubt they're offering anything as yet. IS users would have noticed from traceroutes. And if Neotel starts offering services they will want us to know about it. They know how desperate we are, and it would show us that they mean business.

What kind of international links do Neotel command at this point? Satellite or SAT-3? Or both?
