Well until they actually do offer consumer services all their words mean zilch.

What user base? Anyone here on neotel?

but will rather follow a soft launch approach where more consumers are slowly added to their CDMA network.
And in the same report they call it a trial... I have yet to see an advert for it, so how will any other consumers know about them?

‘How could you possibly be more expensive?’

Well, this could just mean they'll price it the SAME as telkom...

Excerpt form Neotel's consumer page:

Neotel plans to introduce a variety of voice and data services (including high-speed-Internet and true broadband access services) for individual consumers and SMMEs in South Africa, with the first of these services targeted for availability around the middle of 2007.

A limited area residential trial for high-speed-internet and voice services in July 2007 will be followed by a full commercial offering in select, but gradually expanding geographies.

Neotel's true broadband services are planned for introduction by December 2007.

Seems like they not keeping much up to date...new playa old news

Hay further pointed out that the company is not planning to launch loose standing services, typically only voice or only Internet access. Neotel is rather looking at truly converged services, bundling voice, data and/or Internet services.

Exactly what I do NOT want. Give me a loose standing internet connection so that I don't have to throw R120 every month into the dustbin and I might be interested. Offer me tons of "free" crap which I don't need or want and you'll lose my business if you can't offer it at current price - R120 atleast.

Arrrggg it is the difference between

so NeeTel refuses to confirm whether its pricing will be < Telkodemonopolies' pricing, but confirms that NeeTel's pricing will not be > Telkodemonopolies' pricing, so that means that NeeTel's pricing = Telkodemonopolies' pricing...
Hmmm I did that back in April, and I haven't heard anything from NeeTel since its initial reply to my email:

Here is a copy of email I received on 23 August 2007 from Neotel after making an enquiry about Durban.

Good Day Mr. ****

Thank you for your interest in Neotel. We are currently limiting our trials in Johannesburg and Pretoria, in order to ensure that we can focus on ensuring that the service offerings are aligned to the customer’s requirements. Nevertheless, Durban is one of our high-priority areas, and we have noted your contact details in our database and will be happy to keep you informed as and when we are closer to rolling out services in Durban.

We look forward to your continued support and patronage,

Regards

Budgeted user base of 45mil and increasing steadily.

I'm more interested in the underwater cables that Neotel might organize w/ seacom than neotel itself.

Hay further pointed out that they will not introduce their consumer offerings with a ‘big bang’, but will rather follow a soft launch approach where more consumers are slowly added to their CDMA network.

Waiting for all the low lying fruit to rot and shrivel up?

The easy picking are not going to be so easy to find when Neotel finally get their fingers out.

I just don't think that CDMA is going to be able to compete with ADSL in terms of reliability and ping times...Maybe I am just lucky to live in an area with stable ADSL?
