Neotel Wimax versus Neotel LTE

All the Telkom cables in my area were stolen, and there doesn't seem to be any timeline for it being fixed. This leaves me with relatively few connectivity options (there's no fibre) - my usage is 150GB -> 200GB pm and I require low latency for gaming.

Basically my options have been narrowed down to Neotel - who provide two wireless options - Wimax and LTE. Neotel confirmed Wimax is available (don't know about LTE yet).

My question: Is there a large performance difference between the Neotel LTE and Wimax services?

We tested Neotel LTE, and it worked well. Not sure about WiMax, but I think it will give more or less the same performance.

@RPM. I have the Neotel installers coming around tomorrow. I'll try convince them to set up both antennas and do some speed tests.

Service wise, no difference. Up/download Speed, 1 static IP, all the same. Wimax outdoor antenna is quite a big beast, compared to the relative small ATEL LTE unit. Almost 6x the size. In some complexes, BC would want the installation to be as unobtrusive as possible. That means LTE, but if I live in a house, and have no LTE coverage, but good Wimax coverage, I would go for it. The back-end is the same.

AFAIK, early Neotel Wimax adopters scored 5 public IP address, now you only get (and need) 1.

Well the Neotel contractors came out and found extremely poor Wimax reception (even when standing on the highest point of the roof with a 3m pole). Unfortunately they didn't bring any LTE equipment - which is what I requested when initially signing up. I should find out today whether they plan on sending guys out to test the LTE signal.

*holding thumbs.

Any news?

I'm sortof in the same dilemma...well, my problem is the ADSL is just not usable during peak times...as in I can't even open a website.

Thinking about moving away from Telkom as they cannot tell me when the DSLAM will be upgraded to support all the traffic.

Short Story:

I have no Neotel coverage in my area at all:crying:

Long Story:

Neotel Wimax: No coverage at all
Neotel LTE: No coverage at all despite the coverage map indicating otherwise

Telkom Fixed Line: Copper thieves stole R700k worth of new cables (this is the 2nd time). Currently waiting on the Theft Dept to determine if it's viable to lay more copper.
Telkom LTE: I requested a demo and they came out and did a speedtest (ping 13ms,27Mbps down, 3Mpbs up). Pity their largest package (20GB for R999) would only last me a week.
Telkom LTE-A: No coverage

Wirulink: Too expensive (R1299pm for uncapped 5Mbps)
Bitco: (R899pm for uncapped 5Mbps). Now waiting for approval from my homeowners association to put up a 3m pole with dish.

Damn. I also looked at LTE options from the cellular people, but they are way to freakin expensive to use for everyday internet.

Let me know about speeds and latency on the Bitco link :D

Hey guys

We work with BitCo.
Our BitCo latency is less than 5ms locally, the 5Mbps should be available 24/7 and guaranteed at 99% uptime.
It is a premium package, high quality.

The dish looks the same as a dstv dish, it shouldn't be an issue with any complex for approval.

Can contact me for more help.

Kind regards
