Big electricity price hike in South Africa gets green light

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has approved an average standard tariff increase of 11.32% for municipal power utilities.

The application Eskom submitted to Nersa requested a 43.55% price hike for municipalities. According to the regulator, the municipal price hikes will take effect on 1 July 2025.

2 of my kids have manged to move to other countries, my eldest will probably be out of here in a year. So sad that they could not see a future in this country. I won't say what I think about the weak pathetic people that is the cANCer, the last time I did myBroadband band me for 6 months.

"Afriforum argued that municipalities’ applications for electricity tariff increases are unlawful and invalid with the required cost studies."
"According to the firm, only 66 of 178 municipalities had submitted the necessary cost of supply studies."

Imagine, those f**ken racists almost won.
We all know the municipality only serves Afrikaners... nê mainstream media?!?!?!

So little wriggle room...

We're at the point where they have zero idea how to actually improve things. Right now every consequential economic or budgetary wiggle they make more or less takes the form of measures which directly feed into inflation. They're really just devaluing the Rand, while it seems also hoping that by some miracle the Rand catches a bit of shine from some other factor that's out of their control.

They have to stop this above inflation increase slide somewhere. If it's not the cost of energy, then it's government employee salary increase. If it's not that, then it's a tax increase. Otherwise the Rand will just keep spiralling down the drain. They have to stop this downward momentum.

They have to factor in utility services price increases when calculating inflation.

Ag what the fck do I know.

Eskom didn't get what they asked for?

Stage 4 by the weekend.

Entire suburbs in Durban go without lights for days at a time, then get electricity for a day and go out for days again. No only is Eskom not providing electricity on any sort of regularity its overcharging for the mess it leaves us in most of the time.
