Nersa failure could be good news for electricity users — bad news for municipalities

South African households and businesses buying power from municipalities might avoid their regular annual electricity tariff hike in the coming months.

Sunday newspaper Rapport reports that the National Energy Regulator of South Africa's (Nersa's) failure to abide by a court ruling on electricity price determinations will make it impossible for municipalities to hike prices without facing a legal challenge from users.

FREE (legal) representation, incoming!

NERSA does not follow the law but municipalities will? Nah.

And even if there is a delay, they'll recoup this in other ways. Maybe hike rates.

I don't see any reason they should get a percentage increase in line with Eskom. What extra value do they add?

Fake news. Will NEVER happen. They will increase electricity prices. And only an idiot would then make a lawyer rich by challenging it in the farce of a legal system.

Bump, is City of Cape Town increasing prices on 1 July?

I see the proposed increase as at this 4 April article was 11.8%.
