I doubt we have enough solar users to make any significant impact on the grid.

The black market is ripe, in the township you get 400 units for R600 according to someone I spoke to yesterday.

Actually you get that anywhere not just in the townships, you just have to know who sells the illegal electricity and you are good to go.

Is this because the token generator algorithm and crypto keys are out in the wild? I'm guessing it's prepaid generated tokens that are being sold?

Yeah, something like that, I am not well versed on the technicalities, I just know there are people running very profitable syndicates selling Eskom electricity.

Has anyone investigated how much power would be generated if every household installed a solar system with battery back-up to provide for essential use. It would be interesting to see how much capacity that would free up!

Typical decision - address the symptom and not the causes, ineptitude, corruption, maladministration, sabotage and overstaffing amongst others!

All this "charge for solar" is to scare off the paying customers that's running cause of Eskom's F up

Eskom are hemorrhaging customers by the bucketload thanx to the last 2-3 weeks and they trying to put a plaster on a gaping wound.

People will find ways to bypass the system, they should rather try to fix the problem instead of addressing the symptom.

Remember that the anc gave away many solar geysers to people in order to score votes in the years gone by and this tax would apply to them as well even though most of those geysers broke after a month or so leaving the homeowners with plumbing bill to redo the pipes back to standard but the geyser is still on their roof.

These anc fvcker are going to be their own main cause of their demise and hopefully one day the people will turn against them and not Makro or whites.

I say the people must start attacking the anc and the leaders of the party because they are the cause of the broker cowntree.

The numbers might be wrong and the implementation will be a mess but in principle, high volume users who use a lot of electricity from the grid are subsidizing lower volume users to some extend when it comes to the cost of setting up the infrastructure to enable transmission of electricity.

Unpopular opinion, but the principal might just be sound.

I really hope they implement this quickly. What better kick in the backside could there be for people to beg, borrow or steal to go off grid.

Just another laughable spin on the more recent story about solar that hasn't got anything to do with solar.
