Cell C New Wifi Modem - Who Has Stock ?

i was told yesterday that the new Wifi router / Modem is out of stock and ONLY available on a 12month contract for R299 p/m. (Cell C @ The Glen - Ground Floor)

Then i goto the Cell C store upstairs and the lady says "its not been released yet and they think they will have stock end of month, im guessing" thats what the lady told me.
i informed her the store downstairs says its on contract currently so how come u guys know nothing about it? she replied as previous - "check end of the month"

Eish - can anyone tell me if the new Cell C wifi modem is available and if so can i buy it cash and not on contract?

Thanks :)

It is seriously sad how company's website is not properly updated to reflect products. And is it so difficult to consistently inform sale points of the necessary information that they all don't look like idiots, when a customer approach them about an "advertised" product?

Secondly, I would recommend that you send CellC stickers to all regular modem providers and mark the modems we can use, even if it is just at big stores like Incredible, etc. It will make the lives of consumers so much better and improve your sales. Not everyone is willing to search the Internet and read a 50 pages of debates on what works and what doesn't.

Has anyone got their hands on one yet? I'm contemplating this as an internet solution 'supplement' for my android while at the office. (They moan if we use internet...) I would like to know if it has any hiccoughs to take into account. I can easily connect it to USB if the batt goes, so that the battery only lasts 4-5 hours shouldn't be a mayor issue for me. The form factor looks small enough to fit a shirt pocket?

I have a VC TopUp contract but the data prices are just ridiculous (And yes, I have even purchased a 1Gb MyGig, the price comparison with a CellC whoosh prepaid sim still makes VC suck donkey clongs) I'm thinking of feeding it my 5Gb sim during the day to sync up everything and stay connected without VC's overcharging prices?

Anyone perhaps want to mention any other similar products in circulation that are competatively priced or smaller or in some way better?

Hey ferryman, I have this device and it works like a charm. It's really small, weighs about 80g and fits comfortable in a shirt or trouser pocket. I reckon this device along with the Novotel MiFi are probably the best portable 3G wifi routers on the market in their price range. Cell C sells the MyZone for around R1,499.

Thanks for the info, Think I will invest in one later next month or thereabouts possibly. Its a good alternative to swapping sims or having to keep connecting via internet-passthrough in Windows :shiver:... (..why doesn't linux support internet-passthrough via usb0...)

/:mothballs:: pocket:... first I need to get my WUG kit $$ in order, then my car payment $$, the the cell payment $$, sigh, :p Why dont they just give TopUp contracts that are prepaid in one lump sum, then you get service year round and you're only broke for a month... :p

Pavan, have you tested the range perhaps, how far away do you still get a good/fair connection? E.g. could you still connect if you were in the next room?

Good Day ferryman

I have one works well, even in the next room but you will lose signal (please keep in mind is a portable device so booster not as good as e.g. net gear)
and also the thickness of your walls can play a big part.

Thanks, I was just thinking along the lines of how finicky it is with a wall;

for instance I get an email with attachment on my android, click to view it, leave the device on my desk and quickly pop into a collegues office to show him the attached pdf, still downloading, and then the connection dies halfway out the door.

(Stupid example I know but something similar happened today at court with a doc. VC 3g died round the bend into the filing room [probably the thick walls in archives].. Thought I could convince the clerk of the court about something by showing them scans of the documents we set down for trial... Ended up showing her a spinning timer and a blank email, lol.)
