Netflix is great for the average joe and someone who hasn't consumed their entire catalogue given their choice of genre, perhaps they need to focus on making more quality content and less of this American crap that's 90% soft porn.

Secondly the region restrictions are extremely annoying, yes I use a vpn to switch but the fact that I have to watch season 1 - 3 of something locally then switch to USA to watch season 4 there and finally switch to UK to watch the last season there is k@k, what about the people who don't utilize those things because they aren't tech savvy. I understand broadcasting agencies have rules and regulations with what Netflix can and cannot show its just enough to piss anybody off when you finally join the digital age only to taken for a po&s by these giant tech companies.

The same can be said for YouTube, there is so much crap nowadays because everybody wants to be a Youtuber and make millions, I miss the times when you could open YouTube and actually learn something useful and not be bombarded with "INSERT CLICKBAIT TITLE THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE YOUTUBE VIDEO HERE" paired with a shocked face.

Safe to say I switched over to LinkedIn learning for that and just sail the high seas for anything worth watching.

I've actually ended up watching Psych on Prime, Bones on Universal (DSTV) and AP bio on Showmax. I do watch some Anime on Netflix but yeah it's definitely losing its appeal.

I've been motivating to do this, but SO says we need it. Netflix released too many shows that I watched and then abandoned them after two seasons. I don't trust them enough to start any new shows.
You could always rent a VPS + jellyfin and sale the high seas for all your entertainment needs. You would physically need to maintain the catalogue though.

What I really want is new seasons of Netflix original shows in which I am invested. I'm not so dedicated a TV watcher to invest time and effort in finding and curating content illegally, unless it’s something really important to me.

Why wouldn't you compare Disney+ with Netflix? What is fundamentally different about the 2 systems to make them uncomparable?

Here is the reasons why I never invested in Netflx and my reasons as to why they are not comparable.

Firstly, Netflix was reliant on licensing deals to distribute other content not made by them. With the launch of Disney+ many such content were pulled from Netflix. Just to mention a few - Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and more. Over and above this, Netflix admitted that licensing deals are becoming much more expensive and unaffordable, some shows affected by these negotiations and expensive deals include Friends, Arrested Development, The Office and others. So, Netflix are now much more reliant on creating its own content and they are doing very bad in this.

Disney+ also has an advantage of more channels such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, which Netflix unfortunately never will have access too. In addition, Disney recently acquired 20th Century Fox and will expand its IP and content to viewers.

Unfortunately, the quality of Netflix productions have been in decline. 95% of its own and new content releases are unwatchable. People are leaving the service for better quality.

Ahhh ok, so you're more saying that Netflix content creation ability vs Disney's are not comparable.

Ok cool, yeah that I completely and utterly agree with.

Funny - they're only announcing their numbers tomorrow.

COVID lockdown forced them to release more content.

The only way I see them increasing subscriber numbers is by them cracking down on account sharing, which is going to piss a lot of people off - but will they be pissed off enough to cancel?

They also announced back in January and there was a massive increase in HBO Max subscriptions. These will still increase this year with the new movies that will be released on the channel.

Netflix will not compare this year with HBO Max.

Those shows are still on NEtflix.

Yeah Netflix content can be okay, never fantastic, but think them aiming for certain demographics causing issues.
But also every studio is now getting into this streaming thing. So you want NBC stuff it's Peacock, HBO and and. Soon to watch stuff you'll have to subscribe to various providers and drop the ones you don't watch for a bit and sign up again.
So far in SA it's Prime, Showmax and Netflix which will come up to R340pm

Lol 17 million users vs 200 million +.

Remember, last year HBO Max were still on around 5m users. Netflix is available globally, while HBO Max is restricted to the US. HBO Max did announce expansion to certain other countries this year.

They've all been cancelled. Wish I'd known before I started Daredevil and Punisher - awesome shows, only to get to the end and check when the next season releases, just to find out it's been canned...

If Disney decides to do so, they may continue in future there. But, I will not hold my breath though.

Between YouTube and Netflix I'll pick YouTube, but that's just me and what I like to watch.
Agree
When lockdown started 13 months ago I watched lots of Youtube
I haven't launched Netflix since June 2020
So 2 months ago I canceled it

I still watch Youtube every single evening after work. Love it

And, the creation ability is eventually what will determine the success of these type of businesses.
