Netflix crushes Prime Video in South Africa

There are other streaming options available to South Africans apart from Netflix and Showmax – with Amazon’s Prime Video product standing out as an attractive alternative.

While Prime Video does not offer some of the most popular shows around – such as Game of Thrones and Stranger Things – it has its own exclusive shows which may be tempting to local viewers.

Anyway, Prime is much cheaper for UHD content compared to Netflix (R170), not sure if Showmax even has 1080 these days.

I've watched a few really good series on amazon prime. Their catalogue is not as big here as Netflix but they have some quality shows and are cheaper. I subscribe to both.

My issue with prime is no app to use for my hi-sense smart tv...

Will definitely take out a sub when they launch lotr series thought.

They need to improve their user interface. If I could filter out all the Indian movies it would be a much better experience.

Number 1 reason for my Amazon Prime subscription is The Expanse! But they have some good stuff on there CSI, Good Omens, The Night Manager etc. Not a good as Netflix in both content and user interface but it has its place. Another B
Big niche for me personally is when my friends kids are here there is a lot of content which they haven't seen on their Netflix.

If you have to choose then Netflix and Showmax is probably better choice. If you can afford it as an addition to Netflix then would recommend it.

I would be so happy if they remove all the Indian movies or at least give a filter to remove them.

Currently we subscribe to Netflix, Showmax and Amazon Prime Video and if I have to drop one it will probably be Amazon.

I think Amazon is improving their content if the new show The Boys is anything to go by, 2020 onwards should be a real good time for Amazon Prime.
