Netflix drops big Hollywood movies to focus on exclusives

This would be interesting if successful.

I have watched 5 movies this year, no loss. Daredevil shows what production netflix can put out.

Netflix usually does not fail so i'm sure they know what they are doing

I think it is good that somebody is attacking the Hollywood monopoly on movies. Maybe if this is successful they might even change the way they release movies in future.

Barely watch movies any more.

Just the major releases, so probably under 10 a year.

Series is where its at.

Hmmm...interesting comments. Just the other day netflix fanbois was singing the praises of netflix huge movie selection and criticized showmax's limited (400) movie titles.

Netflix original movies?

Now that's a brilliant idea. These guys make awesome productions as seen with Orange is the new black and Daredevil to name but a few. If they start making movies of that quality then Hollywood might just be in for a massive shake up.

Some movies are being removed, not all of them. Besides, this applies to the US Netflix, not all of the others. ;)
Competitors have responded to Netflix’s move, with Hulu announcing on the same day that it signed a multi-year agreement with Epix. Amazon has carried content from Epix since 2012.
Hulu's collection of movies has always been rather small.

Oh, i don't dispute that, it's just funny that all of a sudden no one watches movies while the limited selection of movies on showmax was highlighted by the fanbois.

Do you dispute that Showmax's 400 movie library is a bit of a joke?

I think Naspers/Multichoice went the wrong direction trying to compete with Netflix. They should have taken a page out of Sky's book and produced their own version of NowTV. Three packages - entertainment, movies, and sport - with both back catalogue and, most importantly imo, live streaming content. They would have owned streaming in SA by the time Netflix arrived on the scene.
