Netflix loses 1 million subscribers in Spain after rolling out fee for account sharing

It's called being an adult.
You still pay their rent as well?
Yes, I do still support them in various ways... that's my privilege and prerogative.

household / family / tribe / clan / gamer group / raiding party.... it's all semantics...

Netflix does not get to describe or decide who I support and who is in my circle. As long as they are my blood.

But if they are not my family, then yes... they can get their own damn account... and yes I AM actually paying for a second account for another family who are friends of mine (but not related to me). They can't afford it.

Netflix can do as they please and if you agree to their terms you shall bow down to them or not use their service. Like the 1 000 000 Indian Kula's. You better take out and start paying for each of your adults.

However, if they live under your roof, that would be considered a household.

There no freebies in this world.

Sucks to grow up.

This is not Fast and Furious.

Losing users who are using a shared account is to be expected. This just shows that over 600 000 accounts were using shared passwords. Thats a lot of money Netflix was not getting but still had to provide services for.

And to directly blame the other 300 000 or so account on password sharing is also a but short sighted. Could be just crappy content, or even the crazy price increases that have happened over the past year or so - the streaming services would be one of the first things to go.

It would be interesting to see if other streaming services also took such loses, then it could imply other reasons for losing subscribers.
2 things:

1. They marketed themselves as sharing with your friends/family. If you limit to 4 devices, and those 4 devices are in the house,in the neighbour's house,in the hotel in bali or wherever - you paid for 4x simultaneous devices. Now it's "only in the same property" with onerous effort to reactivate monthly if not
2. They have lots of competition now and in many cases this just reminded people who had an active sub but not using it to just cancel since they can't be arsed dealing with issues when they do occasionally log in

I buy family accounts on many services and dole out access to my siblings and folks
Spotify,Youtube etc. Spotify's already a bit irritating in wanting the "physical address" of the account user to match the owner, but at least you can sign in from anywhere once that's done

They are my family,I pay for them to use these things wherever. The moment you start deciding how my family works this billpayer will say **** you

Not quite. They clearly say that using your Netflix while travelling is fine.
Again, I believe it's an idiotic move, for many of the same reasons mentioned by others including you, but it's their idiotic move to make. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

and it just works..no extra admin...but its not practical to pay for all since the catalogues of some of them are just not strong enough...

Geo restrictions are a problem though. So often, it doesn't work. And you have to sub to many different services if you want to view all of it. In a way, at least in the past, DSTV offered content from everyone, from HBO to Showtime to Paramount, Sony, Warner to your National Geographics to your Disneys to BBC. Not all content but most content. Now you have to sub to many different services and often you're still geo blocked, so you have to buy vouchers on foreign sites, use VPNs etc, that all costs more money and additional time and effort spent in figuring out what works with Hulu and what with Peacock and what with Disney US.

We shall see, seems like this stupid policy is fast coming back to bite them.
Let's take a look at their bottom line again in Six Months.

Yeah, I am interested to see how it will affect their operating costs.

I have the same with Google Family which allows to add 5 users under the same roof. My family in different towns. Difference between you and me is I make them each pay R70
