Netflix overtakes ShowMax in South Africa

I think this was to be expected. Netflix has a significantly larger option range and is a massive company with millions... not to mention "Netflix Originals"
 
Not surprised there. Signed up for the showmax free trial and canceled the same day. What a load of crap. Nothing worth paying for there.

Same. Absolute trash service. The few series I was initially pumped to see turned out to only have season 1.

Netflix in SA isn't good either, but it's not as bad as ShowMax that's for sure.

ShowMax emailed me a one month voucher for their service. Not even bothered.
 
Now that is MASSIVE..Always heart-warming to see them getting their ass handed to them.
 
I do enjoy some of the Afrikaans shows on showmax, but showmax needs to re-encode all of their shows with better codecs.
It's also strange how I sometimes experience speed issues on Showmax (720P) but Youtube(1080P) never.
They also need to provide 1080P content.
I would also like a Windows 10 App. Sigh...

Showmax still have loads to do before they can really compete against Netflix.
It's like a shuttlecraft is trying to take on a Galaxy class Starship it ain't gonna work. I have been watching a lot of Star Trek :D

Same here. Got a 2 month free trial, but cant use it, because of my Android Media player being rooted. Yet Hulu, Netflix and Amazon work without any issues. So ShowMax can do one and get lost.

Depends how you look at it. Netflix recently launched vs ShowMax who was already around.

Do you now include ShowMax subscribers who use it with their DSTV account?

There are a few other things you can look at as well, like who is leaving who for who. Ie is a ShowMax user now a Netflix user and vice versa.

Im not sure you can say content dont matter. Imo, content is most important, because better content, better quality , better resolution of content will ultimately drive many people in that direction. Crappy service and content will see many people look at alternatives.
 
lots of showmax show are jerky for no other reason than being encoded incorrectly
