Netflix password-sharing crackdown tests adding extra homes for a fee

Netflix is testing another way to combat password sharing by prompting subscribers to pay an additional fee if they use their account outside their primary household for more than two weeks.

The Verge reports that subscribers must pay an additional $2.99 (R51) to add a secondary location to their profile.

They're sounding desperate now that organic growth has slowed and declining so they hope the leeches will suddenly decide to pay? Lol.

Edit: I don't have a sub myself but do enjoy myself some 'flix and no chill.

So what would this mean if I watch at home on fibre and then watch on a tablet in another location using LTE? Does this mean my tablet is a "second home"?

So I leave the kids and wife at home for a business trip and want to use the Netflix I pay for abroad, I've got to add it as a second additional home if I'm there for more than 2 weeks and then pay more for the subscription I already am paying for?

More customers! for alternative methods like torrent, iptv etc. lol. very stupid decision

Pretty sure they'll target outlier scenarios rather than adhoc usage.

Sounds like it's primarily targeted at tv's.

What if you have multiple TV's in your house?
(Livingroom, kitchen, bedroom.) Do you need a subscription for each TV, even though you only watch on one at a time?

I see where this is going. Eventually each person must pay for all of their devices / login sessions. o_O

So dramatic. Most likely if you have two TVs at two different addresses you’ll be subject to the additional sub. Whether they’re using geoip or gps - who knows
