Netflix vs ShowMax – price, content comparison

Just listing the number of titles is disingenuous.

Freshness and quality of content matters quite a bit. Maybe rather compare top 10 series/movies from last year and list how many services have them. That type of thing. That's way more valuable than just a high number of low quality content.

Frontrow allows you to stream over any mtn sim card if I am not mistaking, their content sucks, but cool for on the go people. There's no need to have data on that sim, it will just work. As long as you use a mobile app.

Where Hulu+? O, wait they are competing against DSTV and not ShowMax, as they show the latest episode right after it has aired in the states, just like with DSTV.....

DSTV costs more than a small car's monthly premium over 54 months.

^ this.

Your comparison is bad, and you should feel bad.

If you're going to include the price of the unblocking service you shouldn't limit yourself to just Netflix US.

Good point there chief! Couple of other services could be included too? Hulu, HBO etc.

I don't see ShowMax as a competitor to Netflix due to the size of Netflix library.. there is however a huge GAP in the market for fresh content which only Hulu seems to fill partially. If ShowMax could leverage DSTV licenses for this it would ensure that people would get it and is the reason i don't have an account with them.. just no need for old content albeit the selection is good however they would then also cannibalise their own market. It's supprising they don't auto offer ShowMax with DSTV Premium btw as it seems like the perfect companion service.. and then Supersport live a sub service with price per game and viola.. but alas.. they like their current satellite model.

Can you point me to where this info is in the T&Cs please, i was planning to do a test using a MiFi device and setup in the lounge. If the mobile app is needed then this does not bode well unless once can cast it to a Chrome browser?

iMHO , not only is content freshness important but also the sound that accompanies what i watch. Netflix has Dolby Digital 5.1 Plus at 640kbps which sounds really great compared to our local counterparts [if we call them that :p] who only do stereo. I did query Showmax and they claimed they allow DD5.1 however i have not seen any evidence of this [during my trial].

:)

ShowMax has HBO, which Netflix never will get. They are complimentary.

ShowMax has a limited amount of HBO shows - if HBO is what floats one's boat they would be better served getting HBO.
