I just got the above netgear modem/router and i already had the asus wireless router forming a network and would now like to include the netgear modem in the network and share the internet connection in the network. I've googled this to no avail-can someone pls give me step by step instructions as to how to get this working.I've tried putting the netgear into modem mode and disabling dhcp on it and connecting it to the asus's wan port but I couldn't even get to the netgear's router homepage and when I ping the homepage it says destination net unreachable.I entered the internet settings in the asus which works fine as a router but none of the computers can access the internet.Any help will greatly
appreciated but may it pls be step by step before i smash this thing against the wall:(

Are you trying to connect to the Netgears setup page via wireless? You will have to use a direct wired connection for initial setup.

I think you need to try and explain a bit more clearly. Maybe do a simple diagram in paint.

Not sure if this helps, but I found out the hard way that you cannot wirelessley network a netgear router with another router.

okay guys, sorry for not being clear earlier. i drew a basic picture of what the network will look like over here (link).
basically, the netgear is a modem/router with only one ethernet port, and the asus is a router with wireless, a wan port and 4 lan ports.
so i want the netgear to provide internet to the network that will be controlled by the asus, if possible. the netgear has modem and router mode and i can turn off dhcp on it, as well as give it an ip address. on the asus i can enter my isp login and password, as well as give it an ip address and turn dhcp on/off.
the asus and the netgear will be connected with a cable and not wirelessly.
so i need help setting this up. pretty please?

no problemo. the computer i'm using now is connected to the asus physically, which is connected to the netgear, also physically

Ok, I am running a very similiar setup, but add an IPCop firewall fitted with a PCI ADSL modem.

Anyway, I suggest the following setup

1) Netgear - Static IP on the network (for example 192.168.1.1) Run DHCP server from the Netgear as well
2) Dlink - Make it a DHCP client , as well as all other PC's on the network..
3) Default gateway of ALL nodes on the network should be that of your Netgear (192.168.1.1)

With this kind of setup, each PC will be able to communicate with each other and share the i-access provided by the Netgear.

Make sure that when you attempt to remotely administer your Netgear initially, that you hardwire to it. Once its set up, you will be able to wirelessly administer it.

hoodrich, you are the MAN!
it seems to be working fine now.
looks like my most major mistake was plugging the netgear into the asus's wan port. when i hooked it up into a lan port, it just started working! beautiful.
thanks dude!

damn this was frustrating. how to feel real dumb and stupid 101: try setup a network...

Hehehe, glad to hear you got it working :)
Out of interest, why not just use the asus to connect to the internet?

I could be mistaken, but if it has a wan port, doesn't that mean that it can at as a dsl modem? Ah well, you got it working... Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
