Hi folks.

I need some advice.

Any info. to help me do my homework in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

For some odd reason that modem kept dropping the connection every few minutes at the office, but worked fine at home. The same modem also worked fine at the suppliers office.

A Netgear model 814 works fine at both the office and home.

I've been using the standard DG834 (no 802.11g) for 4 months now without a single dropped connection.

No hassles at all in fact, I'd recommend it.

(Firstly, apologies for posting in the wrong forum. Just realised that. [:I])

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll try the 834.

One more question. I only have a 802.11(b) (bee) device - my Laptop. The 834 is 11(g) capable with 11(b) compatibility. Although the specs say it will work with existing 11(b) devices, has anyone of you experienced issues using it with 11(b) devices?

Thanks, once again.

Regards

Abdullah

(Jeez, how about me reading before posting! :))

I noticed you are using it without 11(g).

Many thanks.

It worked with an 802.11b laptop when I tried it. You can set the mode on the router.

Fantastic!

Last question: who sells Netgear in Gauteng?

Cheers

That would be the 1m$ question, who supplies Netgear ??

My D-Link Router also supports 11g up to 108Mb/s, and my PPC works 100% using 11b. Just set it to auto-sense and it should be fine. Note though, I believe using slower protocols like 11b degrades performance of other devices using faster protocols simultaneously such as 11g.

Phone Duxbury and ask them for the name of a reseller near you.
