Network services impacted due to Fires in specific areas (Neotel)

We received this e-mail today from Neotel - not sure if it affects anyone else besides us, but I thought I'd share it anyways.

Neotel alert:

“It is with great distress that I need to make you aware of a Major Event currently affecting sites in the Drakenstein, Breedevalley, Stellenbosch, Witzenburg and Langeberg areas.

The event is due to a raging fire in the Simonsberg area which has damaged one of our wireless high sites. Feedback received from our off-net provider is that the power cables feeding the high site has burnt, and that the backup power has been depleted. To make matters worse access to the Simonsberg area has been prohibited for at least the next three days.

In an attempt to remedy the situation our off-net provider is in the process of installing new backhaul links to the various high sites feeding the sites in the Breedevalley, Witzenberg and Langeberg areas (the areas with the largest number of affected sites).

An ETA is unfortunately not available at this point but I can ensure you we are working around the clock to restore services as soon as possible. Regular updates will be provided until services have been restored. “
