DStv and Showmax could launch more standalone sports streaming packages

MultiChoice has said launching more standalone sports streaming products like its new Showmax Premier League service is a possibility.

Responding to questions about why Showmax 2.0 only launched with a Premier League football package for smartphones, the company said this was merely a starting point.

I would bet good money they have all of this already worked out and ready for the point when DSTV premium subs reach a specific point.

Steve Hofmeyr & supporters destroy their DStv products

These pikinini's are going to kill rugby and cricket in this country.

no young parents will be able to afford it, so kids wont play it at school and the whole feeder system collapses.

Too much violence in sport, with the snowflake generation sport is slowly dying, one day in the future there will be no such thing as sport anymore. Then DSTV will be totally screwed

Everything else is collapsing, why should sport be an exception?

So I think Multichoice have finally realised that that thing they've been staring down for so long is the barrel of a ****en shotgun! Culturally, they APPEAR to be trying to change from typical, slow-to-change, dinosaur corporate, to more agile, "lets give it a try" culture, which is honestly what they need to do, as its the only way they can hope to compete with the international giants already actively canvassing their clients for business. They're essentally a tech/media company and they should start acting like one instead of a fuddy-duddy legacy beaurocrat.

I for one will never buy a premium subsciption, but if you give me the option of buying access for a weekend to watch the Springboks, I will hand over my money. I have money to give, you just need to give me the product I want.

I can see...... on the distant horizon..... Super Sport Channel 1 as a standalone package at R1,100 per month. Or, perhaps a pay-per-view of R450 per sporting event.
