New Accountant Needed

Hi

Our business has moved from a small to what is classed as a medium business, we have lost a bit of confidence in our current accountant as the tax implications have become larger and more complex. We have a permanent bookkeeper producing management accounts etc but we need a firm who works efficiently and knows all the ins and outs of taxation to prepare our annual financials.
We are nervous to just change to someone "off the street" and would prefer a few referrals

Thanks

Had exactly the same problem a few years ago. We needed to start paying provisional tax and our accountant messed it up horribly and we were hit with a huge fine.

Moved to Liesel at MVB and haven't looked back: http://www.mvb.co.za/

She's great about keeping you informed about what is happening with your finances and always gets back to me within 24 hours.

Plus she has a fairly large team so you don't have to worry about one person leaving and then no one knows what is happening with your books.

Well I am connected in that world in various ways, so send me a private message if you like. I should however point out that preparing financials (+reviewing/auditing them) and doing tax is generally two separate services & gets assigned specialist staff to each - at least in the bigger firms. The smaller firms tend towards "packaged deals" where one set of staff does everything - with varying outcomes.

A piece of free advice though if I may - recently released (binding) guidance precludes one firm from providing all the common services (preparing financials, auditing financials & preparing tax) in most circumstances. The guidance is not yet effective, but it will soon be & it hasn't quite trickled down as common knowledge in the industry. Anyway you might want to factor that into your decision. ;)
