I saw this ad on TV about an modem/usb for R75pm, is this an 3G connection? Similar to the Vodacom 3G card?

It can't just be R 75.

cant say ive seen the ad, but if thats what it says then thats what it must be unless you see the cleverly placed fine print which usually reads "Terms and conditions apply" which always calls for suspition. Who advertised the ad? MTN or one of their partners?

3G connection not sure... but for R75p/m (which i assume would be over a 24 month period) you could just get a pcmcia adaptor for your pc at alot cheaper, then all you need is the card which comes free with many data contracts.

I did this... got the E620 on mycall 100 contract @ R49/month over 24 months and bought the pcmcia adapter at Incredible Corruption for R299.00. its just a pain if you are going to use it in a laptop too as you will always need access to the back of your pc. Also the earpiece cable is too short.

Btw. DD will my SE P800's headset work on the E620? I dont want to plug it in then find it damaged something. Its not the same as the earpiece that comes with the E620 as its a stereo set.

Thanks
G.

@Mav

That's cool that it worked in the E620 I'm sure if it's still working then you're good to go hey

As for the ad I haven't seen it or heard about it but I'll see if I can find out for you

I meant do you know it will work. I ask coz the cable is almost dubble the length of the standard 1 that came with the datacard. If only the datacard had bluetooth it would have been alot better.

Anyhow I am glad your back on your feet and hope you are feeling better.

I wouldn't take a chance - I would stick to the standard headset you got it with Gary from Huawei is away at the moment so can't check with him if it will work or not but will keep ya posted

And thanks kinda back on my feet still have a lot of catching up to do as I'm have so much other work to do I can't keep up on here

me haven't seen the ad, yet.
but we got 2 Huawei E220 USB HSDPA modems from local MTNSP for guys at the office on MyChoice75.
I've got the E620 PCMCIA, but seriously considering getting meself a USB 1 also, so I can use the long USB cable to string modem to the roof to help with signal :)

You're in unfamiliar territory in terms of trying the E220 with a extended USB cable on the roof but let us know if it works

Be sure to get an "active" 5 metre USB extender like this one. The bulge at the end contains electronics to repeat the signal and you can chain up to 5 of these together to give you a total of 25 metres.

The suspense was bugging me, so I had to try this out for myself.

E220 lying on the desk:
3G/HSDPA signal = -97dBm
GPRS/EDGE signal = -69dBm

E220 on end of 5m USB extender at ceiling height:
3G/HSDPA signal = -93dBm to -91dBm
GPRS/EDGE signal = -77dBm

Not sure why the GPRS/EDGE signal decreased, it could just be the orientation of the E220, but it's definitely worth experimenting as these extenders are not expensive (about R150 retail).
