I reside in CapeTwon in Gardens Suburb, and i would just like to know if someone here on the forum resides close to me so i can get a rough estimate of how long it took Telkom to activate there ADSL connection? My exchange does support ADSL.

Thanks.

You lucky bugger, favourotism hey :p

lol, well i just mentioned it because i hear some people have to wait months before theres will support ADSL. So i suppose i am lucky. lol

Well if you are in a que waiting for DSLAM to be installed in the area, even then you are lucky. Moving end of Dec. and they don't even have a planned rollout for ADSL in the area.

I think you can count on a waiting period of anything between 7 days to 7 months from the day your application got approved. There is no real standard for activation/installation times. You could get lucky and the techie phones you the day before out of the blue and the next day you have it, or they could schedule an appointment, confirm and not pitch up at all. It's a roll of a dice I'm afraid.

PS: Just keep on them, phone them, go to the Telkom shop, just keep them hot. If you don't well they tend to loose application forms quite often.

I just phoned and they told me that my order has been allocated today but no data of installation has been designated yet.

So i guess it's time to wait...........

Okay some progress, today a lady from Telkom Phoned me to confirm my address and what i ordered, lucky for me she did because my address was wrong on there system lol.

Then she said a technician will contact me in the next 11 days to confirm a installation appointment.

So far everything is looking good. No big problems from Telkom so far, never thought that would come out of my mouth. lol

hmm you know the saying, it aint over till the fat lady sings :)
Seems you do have a bit of luck on your side, but wait for the line to be installed, and working before you get too happy.

On my side I've been waiting 3 weeks for this answer: "Your app for relocation has been esculated, someone will call you tomorrow"
Question: "So does that mean that you have found an exchange whish is ADSL enabled for that area?"
Answer:" Well it does not say on the system that it is or is not enabled"

Aaaargh the frustration builds...
Soz for hijacking your thread :o

No worries MFour it's okay. :P

It's been 5 days since Telkom told me that in 11 days someone will contact me and to my surprise last night at 19:30 a telkom guy technician pitched up to make sure my line is okay. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT, 19:30 and a telkom guy pitched up i can't believe i just said that, Then this morning at 07:00 i telkom lady phoned booking an appointment with me tomorrow at 13:00 to finish up the installation.

I am totally shocked and this almost in a holiday season, you know that is SUPERB service in my opinion. I have dealt with Telkom before and it was just headaches but this time it's like all just happening. No complaints wats-o-ever.

The technician that pitched up last night told me that they are working very hard to give Telkom a good name i mean he was working a 14 hour day already. Now that is insane. I send respect to the technicians in the field putting in extra hours just to get our ADSL faster.

Now just to decide what ISP i must use. lol, and i thought the hard part was going to be my ADSL line. lol

Have to agree here. My line and a subsequent speed query was sorted out very professionally, also had a techie arriving a 19:30 after having been trying to sort out speed issue at the exchange since 18:00 or so.

Apparently though; Telkom is hiring contractors to do the job, so if they don't get it done, suppose they don't get paid...

They also have to (yeah right ) abide by the 30 says installation "law"

Well I am glad to hear that Telkom "provided you with excellent service" today:p For an ISP I would look at TelkomInternet (yes you read correctly) because of the relaxed capping policy and for no other reason, Web Africa for excellent service and ease of use, even possibly Open Web for local bandwidth options. It all depends on your needs and what you will be using it for.

After 3 hours on hold I finaly got through to a person, I was then told that my exchange has now got ADSL ports available  This worries me, because last time I checked (4 weeks ago) there was no exchange, let alone available ports. So either the first person got it wrong when I applied for the transfer, or the second person just told me what I wanted to hear to get rid of me. I forsee that a hardworking techie will pitch to install the said service, i.e. telephone jacks and go to the exchange to enable my DSL line, just to find out that there are actually no ports and that it is not DSL enabled. Time will tell I guess. I am not worried though, because I was assured 4 times that there are ports, it is enabled and this will not change by the time they come to install ... NOT:rolleyes:

I will apparently be contacted by a techie in 7 days to confirm installation date...it's been 5 days, they have 2 days to go...
