I hardly expect less from datapro, they are not much different from Telkom. This would just mean more money to them with more rediculous products.

This is like the petrol price lets drop it 20c this month and 15c next and then raise it 25c and 30c the two months thereafter. Me thinks that advert idea should kick into action. telkom may have dropped Adsl prices by 31% but this is surely a 50% plus hike?

I'd love to know how much Telkom are going to charge for the TV-over-broadband service. It can't be more than R400 per month. I wonder how they are going to justify charging someone who uses 50gig of bandwidth watching TV R400, but charge someone who uses 50gig browsing the net over R3000.

Good job Telkom, how the **** are you going to justify that you assholes!!!!

Hmmm...it would be great if they pulled the plug afterall :D

Common sense prevails. I’ve got to agree with your reasoning. No point in even discussing the issue. They have finally lost the plot all together. So let’s support them and try to get them to push the price up a little more. How about R60.00 a bit

In my support of telkom I think the next thing they must do is propose servering the SAT3 and SaFe cables. B#stard country telling telkom directors what they can do or can't.
Who the hell do icasa think they are?
Don't they realise that more people (fact) pay telkom than that stupid little setup known as Inland Revenue Services.

*Sobbing quietly in corner* My little telkom story (said company not worthy of proper noun usage): Been using my rented copper infinitum since '98, got R7 deal for dialup. I live in little section of Brackenfell, Protea Village, and the exchanges here are, as I understand, all modern. telkom tells me that for dialup purposes and there's nothing they can do to help, I'm stuck with an infernal 28.8k connection. ARGH!! I still try to survive with this antiquated Alexander Grame Bell line... but boy am I wollowing! telkom tell me that its tough luck on me. Oh well. I ordered 192k ADSL about three weeks ago online, then made a chance visit to Tygervalley telkom shop, to confirm my order. They didn't know what I was talking about. They asked if I wanted to reorder, which I did, which was about a week and a half ago. That part is still fine, as I know the uptake for the service is high. I was a bit miffed though, why have the service online if it doesn't do what was intended. I've gotten quite an education here on the forums recently, also just joined as a member today. From what I have learn't over this whole debacle, I've got second thoughs about my order! GROAN! I hope we all get to the bottom of this telkom mess and get some truthful answers out of them. SOZ if my contribution was long in the tooth...

I believe that Brackenfell has been choosen as a test case for very bad service to push the likes of you over the edge. Result Totally Insane equals one more ANC voter. :) Couldn't resist. Hope u come right.

My question is as follows: RPM answer if you are available since you are the person that is running stuff.

Is this not just a ploy to stabilise telkoms share at the JSE.
if they advertise this as a rumour than customers are going to act on it.
If i am right then all telkom is doing is stabilising there side by pushing in the opposite direction.

why not us stand our ground and push back.
lets make a stand against anything that they do until they are ready to sit down and talk to us.

Just like the unions and strikers why cant we do something along those lines
last resort of course

Does anyone have any idea of what the effective cost to Telkom is for each GB of international data?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were putting as much as a 10000% increase on this cost.

To understand Telkom pricing is to understand their commitment to investment recovery. Because they are a monopoly they can assure shareholders investment cost recovery in shorter periods than that a normal company would in competative conditions. I think Telkom recovers cost in months rather than years, which explains the HIGH PRICES! The problem is that they don't drop prices after cost recovery. A normal company would spread out cost recovery over a longer period of time and have a lower consumer price as a result. After recovery prices in normal conditions would also drop rapidly. We don't see that here because there is no natural incentive for Telkom to do it. This is where ICASA comes in. It's job is to ballance things out in the absence of competition.

This situation is tantamount to an abuse of the consumer's human rights because affordable telecoms services in an increasingly digital world is vital for our country. We have moved beyond that point now and anybody still debating this should re-evaluate their point of view...

Ask yourself why:
- Telkom hasn't introduced flatrated dialup in SA?
- around 80% of SA doesn't even have access to an ordinary phone?
- the international undersea cable links that Telkom has sole access to (from South Africa) is under-utilized and overpriced when we know those cables have a limited lifespan (if you don't use it to the full, the unused BW will never be recovered)?

WHY??????

Telkom is negating its social responsibility toward the people of this country!
