New ADSL user with problems

Hi

Any help regarding my problems will be appreciated.

I got my ADSL today. So far I am Happy with the speed of brouwsing but I have a whole lot of other problems.
I am unable to access the following:
- Internet banking is not working
- Windows update not working
- Unable to connect to any game related servers or game updates.(I can download files)

I have Windows XP, Telkom USB Modem, I see my connection is bridged.

I would like to use my ADSL for gaming like C&C Generals and FPS games and general brouwsing.

What should I do to get the most out of my ADSL connection regarding gaming?

Wierd. You haven't by any chance got a firewall running that blocks the ports required for these services?

I figured out what was going on. I checked if I had a firewall running but their was none. I then tried to un install norton internet security and I was unable to. But Norton was not loaded so how could it still block. I then re-enabled it in msconfig startup and rebooted. And gotcha the line was unblocked. So seems that even when norton does not load it still blocks all ports. I even looked in services and nothing for norton was their. Strange but all is ok now.

SOME HELP WITH HOW TO RUN A PROPER GAMING ADSL SETUP WILL STILL BE APPRECIATED. WHERE CAN I SEARCH?

Glad to hear you're now OK. Concerning a games config, refer to some of the postings on the forum, particularly those regarding ping times - a non-shout request will elicit some help from gaming members, I'm sure (don't capitalise, you newbie you *slap*)...

Now why all the shouting? [] You are aware of http://games.saix.net yes? That is a great source of fun. Some local game servers have been hacked out for games usually requiring overseas access (which sometimes results in laggy gaming) and all you have to do is search for them...
