New airline planned to fill SAA vacuum

A new airline, Skylink Airways, has been established with the aim of filling the vacuum left by South African Airways (SAA).

AeroTime Hub reported that Skylink Airways was founded by South African entrepreneur Clarence Andrea Steyn.

Steyn told Aero Telegraph he has received backing from Russian and South African investors and has started hiring former SAA staff.

If I could ask a question without any anbiguity, what is the safety record of these passenger jets?

Taking into consideration Boeing's recent misfortunes I ask the question without favour or indignation.

Its a Russian liner so my immediate concern is safety of the planes.

If you have ever flown on an internal flight in Russia, where the door was held closed by ropes and the plane rattled and banged all the time, you would not want fly on a Russian jet

Back in the dark SU days, they used to report accidents as "Late arrivals". Grieving relatives were shooed out the airport

Leitch said the Sukhoi Superjet 100 is problematic. “Most airlines around the world have stopped flying them because of a lack of spare parts, maintenance, and factory support.”

.....In other words, it fittingly should feel at home.

If this is linked to Aeroflot in any way I'd stay far away.

I insured them years ago and there were a few claims such as:-
1) Pilot drunk plane crashed
2) Pilot caught with his toddler child on his lap in full control of the plane
3) Forgot to refuel - crashed - happened more than twice
4) While taxiing collided with a Jumbo both planes had replacement wings

Etc..................

There are only 127 in the skies at the moment. They have a lack of parts, so you'd start there.

This should help though:

Was just a matter of time before the Russians were brought on board to launch a new airline in this country. Typical of the DPE to go under the radar and look to the Russians to relaunch SAA under a new name

Not enough data to make a call I summarize.

Could be like the AK47 or not. My perception could be skewed but my trust in highly sophisticated Russian hardware is lacking.

Yes true. I think the fact that there aren't many of them should highlight an issue here. Either not that good, or just not worth it.
