New bank branches where you can get your Smart ID and Passport

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) will roll out Smart ID and Passport facilities to several more bank branches in 2020.

The DHA launched Smart ID cards in 2013. These cards are a modern alternative to green ID books – which will eventually be phased out – and offer automated identity verification.

So you apply on Dept. Of HA website and collect at the bank branch, right?
Who takes the photo?

How the fsck did nelspruit get a branch at a bank before any of the bigger cities.

Strange. I could swear that I saw a Home Affairs branch in the Greenacres Absa in PE. I assumed that they did smart card IDs.

This article made it sound like that, but when I did it last year, I used the website to pay and book a time slot, and then had to go to the bank to get everything done, photos, etc like you would at home affairs. The HA live system was down at the bank branch. The big screen that showed the queue info was sporting the standard "network-related error while establishing a connection to SQL server" error. :crying: So couldn't even get it done there.

Are these still just limited to citizens?

And as Permanent Resident, if and when I get one of these would that mean I don't have to carry an affidavit photocopy of my PR paperwork less than 3 months old. every time I have to leave the county? I'm assuming they are more secure than the old green books?

Any chance of a follow up on these points MyBB?

I don't get why there is buggerall in the Free State. Who is doing the planning for this? A banana?
