Are there any new Canon cameras on the horizon at all?

I'm not looking at upgrading - but if I wanted to, there's nothing new that's been released on the Canon side on the medium > high end side of things. Lower down they've had the 550D, 600D, 60D... but things seem stagnant elsewhere :/

If I wanted to trade my 7D in, I'd be downgrading in a few aspects by going to the 5D MKII - and the 1D's are professional and multiple times the price - unrealistc for me right now.

Anyone know if they're thinking of a 5DMKIII or 7DMKII?

 of course there are, and as soon as they're released there will be other new canon cameras on the horizon. That's the whole thing about innovation. ;)

The 1D/5D series are due for a refresh, the 7D is still too new.

Ok - maybe I'm just impatient then ;)

Just seems that the smaller SLRs get changed far more frequently. I mean the 1000D was hardly out before there was a 1100D ... the 600D almost makes the 550D outdated ... Nikon launched a few new products.

Just seems that if I wanted to upgrade, I can't :/

I actually love it ... and I'm not sure where I'm being too pedantic (as I've never compared any other camera), but the noise handing isn't that great in low light? In fact, the noise is probably the only thing I'm not too happy with.

Although I lose on the crop factor at concerts with a full frame - I gain the better noise at high ISO. Though again, I guess this is relative and I'd need to test a full frame and the 7D side by side.

In my experience noise is greatly exaggerated when you're viewing a photo on screen. What post processing apps do you use? Have you printed these noisy photos, and do they still appear as noisy on paper?

You should have gone Nikon... Sorry, I had to chirp.

Oh - I've never printed them out ...

Perhaps I'll try that - because I've just been viewing them on the screen (to put on Flickr) . It's before any processing has taken place (JPG though), so I have to reduce noise in post processing most the time, which seems to kill some details. That said, I know Noiseninja is the best and I don't have that ....

Perhaps I'll have to try printing and see the difference then.

The specs of the Nikon D7000 look pretty impressive, tbh ... but I wanted to the 70-200 lens which - I heard - is better than the Nikon equivilant?

I also preferred the menus etc, as I'd had two Canons before ... so I do like the brand ;)

First off, if you're going to be pushing higher ISO then you really want to be shooting in RAW. If you have to shoot jpg then what NR settings are you using?

Noiseninja is good, as is dfine - I use both but tend to favour dfine.

Ok - I have no idea on the setting ... hehe. I'll have to check that tonight ;)

How good is the inbuilt noise reduction of the camera vs PSE9 vs Noiseninja?
Day and night?

Dfine doesn't seem to bad, I guess. I'll download the trial tonight and try on my own photos

EDIT : It's the same their Sharpness 3.0 they sell - is it that much better than the PSE sharpening?

Jpg is great when you have a lot of images to push through in a short amount of time, in those instances the built in noise reduction shines. However, if you've got the the time then shooting raw is going to yield better results when it comes to post.

That will make me pull the trigger.
Really? So what features of the MkII impress you enough to commit to an unannounced camera? . . . aside from it being a II.

If I was going to make a fantasy wishlist for the 7DMkII then it would include better AF and an APS-H sensor.

Purely emotional based. :p I should have bought the 7D in stead of the 550D initially, been lusting after one ever since. The MKII will be a good excuse. :)

On another note, now that you've mentioned it, I've heard people complaining about the 7D's AF. Both pro's and amateurs. I'm sure it has a lot to do with RTFM and the more complicated system i.e. user error, but between the lines I gather there may be some issues?

I'm pretty familiar with the manual. ;) The problem is I have with it was due to my expectations - or maybe just wishful hopes - of the AF being as good as my 1DMk3 and as a result was disappointed. It's not a bad camera by any stretch of the imagination. It's got it's quirks - like flash+ISO - that frustrate the hell out of me but you adapt, improvise and then overcome. :)
