The new mazda 2 is launching is SA soon, that (to me) can be compared better to the Fiesta. Maybe wait a while, and then make your decision.

R30k more. That's not to be sneezed at.

MAZDA 3 gosh I blush everytime I see one and I'm a guy. Love it
The new Mazda 6 brings a tear to my eye and the New MX-5 Just make me break out in a loud girly wail crying my eyes out that I don't have the money to buy it right NOW THIS VERY INSTANT!![]()
The thread had moved on from there. His original costs were only R5k apart, and I quote:
Obviously if he shops around he can get better pricing. And comparing 2 different segments does not help either.
I would still buy the Mazda 3 above the Fiesta ST. It's just way more car for the same amount of money.
Different cars for different needs.
The mazda is not as exciting, but has 5 doors, more space and I assume a softer more comfy ride
The FIST is Sporty and appeals to people who want to be fast and look "cool" ie not practical but lots of fun.

Come again? The Fiesta is packed with standard features.
so i am in the market for a new car, i have narrowed down my options to ford fiesta 1.0 and the new mazda 3 =QUOTE]
Mazda3 of course. Mazda3 rivals with ford focus while the fiesta rivals with Mazda2. The new Mazda2 has already reached our shores 4 days ago confirmed by Mazda SA but yet to officially announced it.
Ford Fiesta Pros: Stylish looks; Superb fun to drive; Cheap to run
Cons: Small boot; Interior is slightly cramped
Mazda3 Pros: Extra boot space; Cheap to run; Stylish design; Brilliant to drive.
Cons: Entry-level engine is slow.
