New case deals with SARS taking money from a taxpayer’s bank account

It is the middle of South Africa's tax season, with taxpayers filing their tax returns and some experiencing challenges with the revenue collector.

This is precisely the reason why SARS should not have access to attach to any money in any person's bank account, whether taxes are owed or not. There should be court proceedings and the defendant needs to be in a position to defend the application. This way SARS cannot make such errors, especially in a corrupt and inept government where nothing seems to work correctly.

Alternatively, people should just open a second bank account, keep it dormant and report that account on tax returns. Then there is nothing for SARS to steal.
