  • The South African Post Office can deliver the disc to the customer – at an affordable delivery fee
And this is the problem. Barring no system downtime, bad coding, most of us renew a license within the last 30 days. We need the license delivered in a couple of days, not months or years. So, this whole plan already failed before it started.

So wait, they are going to improve things by having a seperate queue, which every post office I've been to for vehicle license renewals already has?

The app sounds interesting though, but I doubt the October deadline really.

So far in Cape Town licenses generally get delivered quite quickly by the post office once they're issued by the city. Their online process is quite archaic, but even renewing within 30 days of the expiry date it generally arrives before that date. You have an additional 3 week grace period anyway.

"The service is offered in all provinces except the Western Cape. However, SAPO said that it expects to provide the service in the province soon"

Ooh I hope so!

Just imagine the positive impact they could have made if they designed a system which will automatically renew your car license each year, print the license, fold it, sort it into an envelope, seal it and have it ready for shipping by private courier. No human intervention needed.

The whole process gets activated the moment the public downloads an app or logs into an eNatis website, confirm the details on the system and make the online payment.

This would be an absolute game changer. No queues needed anywhere.

Not in a third world county with 35% unemployed!

The more hands... the better...

Pity they closed the one nearby post office that you could renew licenses at.
