I think this was more because they realised nobody else would watch the channel and they wouldn't be able to charge stupid advertising fees.

This is great (note sarcasm).

Got my netflix running, just about ready to cancel dstv :)

When I phoned DSTV call centre on 12 November to find out why I could not receive the MGM channel, I was told there was a technical fault and they were working on it. I actually believed them, big mistake hey.
Being a Premium subscriber, I expect to receive all channels including those offered to cheaper packages. Except the HD channels of course :)

Here's a theory I read on News 24:
DSTV said this channel has many repeats of programs on other channels. So if they gave it to Premium subscribers, they would complain about another channel with repeats. So instead, they didn't give it to the premium subscribers, and instead waited for them to complain that they want the channel (after they were told it is full of repeats). So now the subscribers feel like they scored cause the "got what they wanted" ... it's a damn well good theory :p

If this is the same variant of the MGM channel that TopTV has, when the reality sets in and DSTV viewers realise that MGM is an incredibly boring channel, they could well be begging MonoChoice to remove MGM from their bouquets.

MGM is as nearly as boring as the other 3 new CBS channels. Dallas series 1 again, a dash back to the 1980's

Repeats or no repeats, it's the principle of the matter. Premium subscribers are getting ripped off as it is, this MGM channel issue was just more salt in the wound.

WTF....So MultiChoice excludes the customers they rape the most :(

Can't wait to get me NetFlix up and running.....just need the dough :)

I was always under the impression that if you are subscribed as a premium subscriber you would automatically receive all channeles(excluding value added such as Indian Portuguese).

StarSat have already unveiled their offering.

If they're listening as they claim, then they must remove all other *****ty channels, 'cause everything is a repeat of something.

...

Compact subscribers gets it way worse as everyone knows. Mnet Series was perfectly fine but it had to be split up into three different channels with Compact subscribers ending up paying the same for not being able to watch their favourite series anymore. :wtf:

“We want to give our customers on all the different packages the best entertainment at great value for their monthly subscription.” Said Multichoice

Oh the irony.

Why are they complaining? That's a kark channel old movies. If it's for other bouquets it's bound to be kark movies. That's how monochoice rolls.

I think what we need to take away from this is if people complain, things get done.

now, if only we can put all that passion on our high internet IPC and other costs to good use instead of just bitching about it on a forum, we might end up with a result like the DSTV users did.

It is the same one. Really bad channel.
