New Fibre Line - what to know?

Okay so our fibre line is installed, router is configured and working, but there's apparently an issue with the fibre config (per Fibre Hoods), which is being addressed.

Got me thinking though, what are the basic things I should know and check on the line/connection once it is up and running?

I often see threads about poor performance etc, so I assume there are standard things to check.

Also, any tips on optimization? DNS Settings etc? Anything different?
