New fibre-to-the-home player with 1Gbps service

Don't think so, Telkom is here to stay, remember these new companies are investing in the last mile and Telkom is big on the backbone and I don't see these companies duplicating that.

MTN, Vodacom, NeoTel & DFA to name a few are busy with national backbone roll outs, and I am sure their pricing is better placed than Telkom's.

True to a certain degree, Vodacom, MTN are building national fibre that connects their towers, DFA and Neotel are going for low hanging fruits. Telkom has fibre in every town in SA. SA will be less dependent on Telkom but Telkom would still have substantial role to play in the provision of broadband.

As long as I can get better upload speed than telkom's sh**ty 10:1 ratio I don't care who it is.

No one cynical about this? Who are these people? Do they have a track record?
Bulgarians investing in SA? Why here?

When someone says: "We are working closely with the xxx (authority)" I hear "We submitted something to them. If they do not magically approve immediately and give us their full support, we can at least blame someone when we break our promises."

Please tell me this is all kosher!

Never heard of them.. and I expect they to go the same way as all the other guys who have had great plans and nothing to back them up...

BUT I will give them the benefit of the doubt initially at least.

kind feeling the same way, there offices are here in umhlanga ridge. Spoke to some one there, he said they will be ready to start offering the service in 2 months once the fibre has been laid.

Let's hope Kevin and rpm keeps an eye on them. Should be interesting!
For the sake of us as consumers I hope they are successful!

I really wish that these companies who service like 3 suburbs, are not labelled as players...

Yep, pretty cool for the 47 people who get it... :p

Telkom is becoming less relevant by the day. Sure they have a big fibre footprint between cities and towns but this is being replicated by everybody that wants to provide fibre and it's the most expensive part of it.

And call them what? It's not always possible to roll out in a hundred suburbs. Wait, it's never possible.
