New Firmware causes drop in signal strength.

Has anyone noticed their signal strength drop by a few -db since the firmware update. Performance wise everything is exactly the same as far as I can tell, but my signal went down from a average of -77db to -82db. Reverting back to the old firmware boosted my signal again.

Only thing that I can think of is that the new firmware has different rules for boosting power to the antenna under certain circumstances. Anyone have a better idea?

I've also noticed a decrease in signal strenght, which might be related to the firmware upgrade (as after the upgrade it got worse), but there has been some serious issues on the network in the last few days, so I am not 100% sure if it is the upgrade?

I reverted back to the old firmware....sure enough the signal strength went back to normal. Since the latency and speed stays the same I don't know if it's actually a weaker signal or just the way the UTD now interprets the signal strength. At any rate I'm now running the new firmware again and the signal strength dropped again, but except for that I have noticed no differences so far.

Maybe they decreased to signal reported to make the 5 lights / % signal more accurate?

I used to have 5 lights and around -85 - -95db.
After update -85 - -95db and 4 lights max. Might be the network issue they have. Can't say if it was firmware or not.
Just a thought.

Sounds like a plausible explanation seburn since I have already proven that the network issues some ppl are experiencing has nothing to do with the signal drop QuadDamage.

I think they simply adjust indicative lewels. This was b****t with old firmware when 5 light level was indicated at -95 dB! IMHO the right level for 5 lights should be -78 - -80dB when one can have full 1M speed and 1 light - -100dB.

Hey
I had a look last night and it doesn't seem like the firmware fixed anything. Was running at -99db with 5 lights (Not connected).
Then I connected and eventualy dropped to -85 db with 5 lights.
So... looks like our theory is flawed....

@GRES are you still selling your antennas?

Immediate signal drop experienced ... +-10db
I will probably have to change the utTraceStar Ratings!

I also noticed an immediate decrease in ping times But I am weary so I will monitor them

Attached home made arial and repositioned in another place and I got all 10db back ... Maybe its just more accurrate. My ping times are the best I ever seen and so is my speed especially for during the day

I am getting 300-643.1kbits /sec on -88 average signal
and semi-decent ping times:
Ping statistics for 196.2.97.1:
Packets: Sent = 55, Received = 55, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 61ms, Maximum = 640ms, Average = 160ms

Compared to normal less than 200Kbits and ping times over 200 and packet loss (over 3000ms)

from incident report page
15/03/05 Subscriber UT firmware will be updated over the air with a new software version, starting on Tuesday 15/3/2005. The process is expected to be completed within 5 days.

The reason for the firmware update is not to boost the signal. It is there to give you true reflection of your siganl strength.
The reason for the firmware update is also to make the connection stable so that you dont disconnect. So if you did not do the firmware update you should do it.
The firmware update is found at this URL

http://www.iburst.co.za/downloads.php#firmware

You can only do the firware update through USD and not ethernet. All you need to if you are connecting with ethernet flash the device with USB but must install the drivers in order to do that.

thanks

Where can I download the previous firmware version just to be safe.
I use IpCop and it seems that people were having problems after updating to this version.
