Ford’s new B-Max, launched in Gauteng, represents the automaker’s vision for a premium compact multi-activity vehicle (MAV).

Based on Ford’s global B-car platform, shared with the Fiesta, the B-Max boasts, the automaker says, "unobstructed entry with hinged front and sliding rear doors and integrates the traditional central pillar structure into the front and rear doors, rather than forming part of the body-shell."

The new B-Max is available in three derivitives (Ambiente, Trend, Titanium) with a single engine choice – 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol.

All the B-Max versions are powered by Ford’s 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine tuned to two different outputs; Fitted to the entry-level Ambiente, it produces 74kW, while in the Mid-range Trend and range-topping Titanium it delivers 92kW. Both versions have a peak torque of 170Nm.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain and driver knee), ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist, electronic stability programme, hill assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Prices:
B-Max 1.0 EcoBoost Ambiente - R221 900
B-Max 1.0 EcoBoost Trend - R246 900
B-Max 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium - R271 900

Options:
Metallic Paint - R 750

The B-Max is sold with a four-year or 120 000km warranty, four-year or 60 000km service plan, three-year/unlimited km roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty.

Service intervals are 20 000km.

^ I like it; finally in SA.

I believe it's a good seller in markets like the UK. Party trick is that dual sliding doors at this price level.

Strange to only have the 1L EcoBoost option locally...

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit

Just a little bit? I wish it was just a little bit lol

And I still say this is still basically a Mazda 5 with a different engine, some slightly different bodypanels and interior and a different platform :p

Would probably be a good option for a wheel chair bound person.

That's a very cheap entry to the MPV market. Basically around about Polo prices if you go for the entry level Ambiente model.

I am a bit undecided on the looks, however:eek:

Mazda 5 ≠ Ford B-Max
