Saw one in traffic today. Registered with plates

Might be a dealership vehicle. They are pretty big though. I agree with SSB, size is about the size of a Mazda 5. For the same price as a VW Polo, this should be a no brainer. Really not a bad looking car.

Now I drive a new Ford Fiesta Tdci and always wondered who would buy a MPV? A small family? Couples with outdoor hobbies? Seeing as it's just a blown up Fiesta would it really have that much more space?

As I said, it's the size of a Mazda 5. Seems like a lot of the extra space was added to the boot and leg room at the back. It's quite a bit more sizeable than the Figo/Fiesta.

Just because it's not been a hot seller does not mean it's a bad car. I have driven one of them and I really thought it was quite fabulous to drive, and having a young nephew and knowing what it is like getting car seats and prams and the like into a small hatchback I understand the added versatility. It's a shame it didn't sell well. I think had it been styled better then it would have had a better shot.

Le Bump. Updated S-Max:

Ford S-Max 2.5 Duratec FHEV 2021 UK review

Should I buy one?

Ford has doggedly stuck with the MPV sector despite most firms quitting. By adding a hybrid option, the S-Max becomes even more of a one-car niche - neither the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer nor the Volkswagen Sharan offers it.

If that gives the S-Max a reason to survive for longer, that’s no bad thing in our book.

SEE | Have you seen these 'unusual' vehicles from VW, Ford and Renault on the road?

• Volkswagen launched a 'Sportsvan' version of the popular Golf.

• The Ford B-Max was the brand's last compact MPV with double sliding doors.

• Before the success of the Kwid and Sandero, Renault had the Twingo.

Ford B-Max

The B-Max first arrived in the local scene in 2015 and looked very much like the birth product of the Kuga, Eco Sport, and Fiesta as it borrows notable design cues - with the addition of sliding doors.

It was sold in three trim levels - Ambiente, Trend and Titanium - with each sporting a 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder engine with power figures ranging from 74 to 92kW.

At the time of its local launch, pricing started from R221 900 and went up against Honda's Mobilio, Kia's Soul, and Suzuki's Ertiga.
