O think the sedan Honda Brio Amaze is better than the hatchback.

@thechamp apart from the glass tailgate and beige interior what is wrong with Honda Brio (hatchback). Personally I don't have a problem with the glass tailgate, my only issue is the squashed back. Apart from that I don't think the is anything wrong with brio.

That's my gripe, I just can't get over that, it haunts me the same way as those side bulging headlights of the previous gen Toyota Corolla or the cheap Etios interior.

It just kills my soul that things that look so easy to design can go so wrong.

Hell no.. there is LOTS wrong with the Brio... firstly putting Honda's name on such a POS... then allowing a car with such a pisspoor safety rating to be sold is the second problem... other than that its just generally a rubbish car.

I think the only thing that killed brio is the squashed back. Apart from that it's a nice little car not the best car but something to move you from point A to point B.

The Indonesia honda brio the back has some metal but it still look weird.

The 'Brio range' (Brio, Amaze, Mobilo & BR-V) basically shares a modified platform of Honda's N series (N-Box, N-Box+, N-One, N-WGN, N-Box Slash, S660, Vamos & Acty) Kei-Car range in Japan. This can't come with all the bells and whistles like the N-Series as these superminis are meant to be low cost and affordably targeted for the Indian Subcontinent as well as South East Asia.

I have a 2015 Brio and personally its a better offering and value for money then what the competition from other Japanese, American, European & Korean manufacturers.
The Renault Kwid is a safety nightmare.
The Grand i10 is still claustrophobic.
The VW UP! is way too overpriced.
Etc...
IMHO this is the best bang for your buck supermini on the market atm. This being my first car i pain stakingly had to do my research. Working out the opportunity costs involved.
My only gripe though is i wish that the sportier Modulo spec that is avaliable in South East Asia was avaliable here.

Honda recently launched their 2nd generation of the Honda N-Box in Japan and my guess is that platform will form the basis again for the 2nd Gen Brio to build from.

I agree with you regarding the Up! and Kwid, but having spent a reasonable time in both the Grand i10 and the Brio, it's safe to say the Grand i10 is light years ahead. Wouldn't even regard them as competitors actually.

Each to his own and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For of the the cars mentioned one can find good reasons to purchase; it depends on one's own perception and requirements.
My decision was for the Swift GL.

As for the the buying experience the Suzuki dealer was streets ahead of all the others. The sales guy knew his product, he was so enthusiastic and insisted that I immediately take a test drive.
I did not have dealings with the Renault dealer as the 'Kiewiet' was not yet launched.
VW, Honda and Hyundai dealers wanted on-the-road-fees which were non negotiable. The salesmen were real showroom lizards.

Honda has just unveiled, the all-new, 2nd-gen Amaze compact sedan at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. This car will take on the Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent, among other compact sedans here, and will be launched in the coming months. The all-new Amaze is expected to be priced similar to the outgoing model, at about Rs. 5.5 lakhs as a starting price. It’s based on an all-new platform, and was designed by Honda Thailand. 1_578_872_0_100_http___cdni.autocarindia.com_ExtraImages_20180207100336_Honda-Amaze-Auto-Expo-20.jpg

I also think it's not bad a big improvement from the first generation amaze, just waiting to see how will the hatchback will look.

Honda has revealed its second-generation Brio Amaze sedan at the Auto Expo 2018 in India.

Interestingly, the Japanese automaker has opted to kick off this second generation of its A-segment contender with the fresh-faced Amaze sedan rather than a new version of the Brio hatchback.

Honda says the Brio Amaze sedan runs on an “all-new platform”, claiming the sedan boasts a “spacious interior” and “a more efficient powertrain”.

The brand has not revealed any other information about engine options (or images of the new cabin), but it seems likely the naturally aspirated 1,2-litre four-cylinder petrol mill will carry over, albeit with a few tweaks for efficiency.

The new Brio Amaze appears to draw some styling inspiration from the likes of the latest Civic and BR-V, mimicking its larger siblings’ chrome-heavy facia. Round back, though, the new model does away the first-generation’s chrome trim in favour of a simpler, cleaner look, with the taillamps now extending into the bootlid.

Honda says the new Brio Amaze was developed in Thailand. No word yet on plans to bring the new version of the sedan to South Africa.

Baby Type R, anyone? Honda reveals ‘Small RS Concept’

Honda has whipped the covers off its new Small RS Concept at the Indonesia International Motor Show, perhaps previewing a sporty version of the upcoming second-generation Brio hatchback.

Designed by Honda’s research and development arm in the Asia Pacific, the new show car features a particularly sporty exterior design, seemingly drawing inspiration from the latest Civic Type R.

Indeed, the concept gains an aggressively styled front bumper, along with chunky side-skirts, large alloy wheels and a cheeky rear spoiler. There’s also a rear diffuser, vents behind the front wheels and even a bonnet scoop. No word on what’s under that bonnet, though…

“Honda Small RS Concept is the implementation of our endless innovation, emphasising Honda sporty spirit, especially in small car line-ups. As a concept car, this is our vision of what a small sporty car should be,” said Takehiro Watanabe, president director of Honda Prospect Motor.

Interestingly, the RS logo is applied to various Honda models in Indonesia, including the Jazz, Brio and even the Mobilio.

The new Brio hatchback is expected to be revealed later in 2018, running on the same platform as the Brio Amaze sedan unveiled in February.

The new Honda Brio has made its world debut at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). The second-generation A-segment hatchback replaces the original Brio that first surfaced in 2011. Honda’s entry-level model is big in Indonesia, Thailand and India, among other emerging markets.

The new Brio is based on the Honda Small RS Concept that was shown at the 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in April, and the production car you see here is a largely faithful copy of the showcar. Like the concept car, the Brio you see in these pics is the sporty RS variant.

Sharper in appearance compared to the car it replaces, the new Brio’s face features a bold chrome front grille, while the angular headlamps replace the previous bug-eyed-style units. The bumper looks largely unchanged from before, with fog lamps retaining their places within the cordoned off corner sections.

Similarly, the interior hasn’t changed from the Brio facelift that was revealed in 2016, with a dashboard in the style of the Jazz.

In fact, it is a carbon copy of the car it replaces, where many aspects are carried over like the shape of the steering wheel, air-con vents, air-conditioning switchgear and instrument binnacle.

Nonetheless, there are updates to the head unit and RS variants get special trim and additional badging inside.

For the Indonesian market, the Brio (a Low Cost Green Car in the country) will be available in a total of five variants – S, E, E CVT, RS and RS CVT.

All of them are powered by a Euro 4-compliant 1.2 litre four-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine making 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm at 4,800 rpm, paired to either a five-speed manual or CVT.

Equipment-wise, the entry-level S variant, which is available with a manual gearbox only, comes with halogen headlamps with LED light guides, 14-inch steel wheels, a double DIN head unit, single-zone air-conditioning with a digital display, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.

Meanwhile, the mid-range E variants (MT and CVT) add on 14-inch alloys, front fog lamps and steering audio controls.

The range-topping RS variants (MT and CVT) are noticeable different with 15-inch alloy wheels, black front grille and roof, power retractable side mirrors with LED indicators, a dedicated rear bumper with faux diffuser and side skirting.

Seven colour options are offered, including Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Attract Yellow Pearl, Rallye Red and Phoenix Orange Pearl (Brio RS only).

The sedan sister to this car, the Amaze, made its debut in India in February. Malaysia has never had the Brio, with the Jazz being the entry point to the H brand in our market.

UPDATE: The article has been updated with more information following the full reveal of the new Honda Brio.

A first set of images of the second-gen Brio hatchback, which sees its world premier at the ongoing GIIAS 2018 (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) in Jakarta have surfaced on the internet.

Honda-Brio-RS-white 1.jpg

As reported by us earlier, the new Honda Brio gets similar styling to the Honda Small RS concept shown earlier this year at the 2018 Indonesia International Motor show.

The new hatchback gets a similar body shell, along with front and rear styling. Honda has showcased the new Brio in two variants, the standard model and the sportier, Brio RS.

The new Honda Brio’s front styling is quite similar to the facelifted Mobilio MPV that is sold in Indonesia. There’s also a clear link to the first-gen Brio, right up to the B-pillar.

However, the rear door appears to be much larger along with a longer rear overhang. At the back, the new Brio also has a full tailgate, which is a departure from the glass hatch seen on the first-gen car.

Honda-Brio-RS-white-rear.jpg

The interiors of the new Brio seem to be shared with the recently updated Jazz for India. However, the RS variant gets a 6.1-inch touchsreen infotainment system (there's a 2-DIN audio system on the standard one) and highlights on the dashboard and around the AC vents.

Honda-Brio-RS-cabin.jpg

For the Indonesian market, the 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 90hp and 110Nm of peak torque, along with the optional CVT automatic, continue unchanged.

Don't get your hopes up for an India launch, however. The first-gen Brio got a lukewarm response in India, and it will be hard for Honda to make a business case for the second-gen Brio without sufficient volumes.
