New Government plan can immediately increase your medical aid fees by 15%

Medical aid premiums for everyone older than 34 in South Africa can immediately increase by 15% if the government pushes through its proposed amendments to the Medical Aid Schemes Bill.

This is the warning from stakeholders who presented their feedback about the planned amendments to the Department of Health.

Yep, but most medical aid schemes will start going under. In less than 5 years there will be no more than 2 or 3 private medical aid schemes to choose from.

Medical expenses will not be tax deductible any more.
To top it off there is plan to fund NHI by introducing new tax.

When you add this all up with all the other increases it will be very difficult if not impossible to have private cover.

All I can say is if private specialists can't collect their 300%+ medical aid rates, they will probably flock to Canada, Australia etc

I am absolutely not for the NHI, it's not a workable system, and if implemented it'll be an incredibly destructive force on the country.

However, I do think that medical aids have basically given a free pass to government in this respect through their complete lack of transparency that present products in a confusing and disempowering way, and actions in increasing costs while at the same time reducing the depth and scope of services over the last couple of years.

African govt does what all the others do... want everyone dirt poor and groveling in dust and mud while they live in luxury. This is why many of us say this place is on the road to the rest up north.

Well the nuclear gravy train has been stopped so this is the future gravy train.
And still MP's and Executive of government will go overseas for treatment.

Steve Biko hospital has one lift sometimes working(old HF Verwoed) The new lifts are in boxes outside the from of the "hospital" and have been there for iirc 7yrs......

This is the 4th world treatment we are going to get forced to sit with just so there is equality in bad services and help.

Anyone working hard for their money has to give it to the anc so they can have it.

anc stole all the money now we must pay it back.

So an increase of 15% for a primary member but a decrease of +/-50% on adult beneficiary and +/-30% per kid..

Seems ok to me..
