I just downloaded my email to my P800,as I usually do when I am at work. 2 new mail messages totaling 497KB in size, 77KB and 420KB respectively, both in plain text. It took 45 Minutes for this. To get in here was less of an issue. This has been happening since I got the new 1GB bundle loaded on Monday.

I am not one for conspiracy theories but could it be MTN is limiting the usage of data when we are on this bundle? I use less than 1GB a month but wanted to use it to get some downloads done that needs to be done. If the above is the case I am going to cancel my 1GB bundle and go back to my 350MB.

"Soft-capping." There's a new one .... we suspected long ago this was happening on some of the networks. Around the time 3G came along, GPRS became mega-slow.

Now give a customer a huge amount of data, cheaply, but restrict how quickly he can use it.

It has that South African rip-everyone-off feel about it.

Is anyone else experiencing a drop in data throughput since the start of the week? My connection's been irritatingly sluggish this week and I hope it's not because the new tariffs that's been introduced. :( That would then mean that the comfortable MTN experience for me, would permanently be ruined.
Or is it the growing increase in HSDPA enabled towers across the country, or a combination of both? Either way, things ain't looking too rosy. Im hoping it's just temporary.

Guys

The network had a couple of problems this week with international site problems and so forth - Remember we launched the new tariffs on Sunday with the promo = More users on prepaid and more usage on contract hence reduced speeds and congestion.

Time of day from 08:00 to about 22:00 all the networks peak in terms of phone calls as it's off peak and it uses quite a bit of the Radio resources

Hope that explains things?

nah he wasnt in. Simpiwe from 1555 gave him a call and said that Saleem said he sent it through to SMC I think. Simpiwe said he sent through a request for feedback and that they would get back to me within 24 hours which out of experience is not reliable.

It seems my words were barely cold before the slowness kicked in again.... for some reason I was connected using the VM apn....

I'm getting a average of 441kbits at the moment which isn't to bad for this time of the night

HSDPA average is between 400 and 700kbits

Well I am getting according to DU Meter between 4.3KB/s and 0.1KB/s download and upload 1KB/s or less. (that is when it works otherwise it just shows 0.0KB/s n both)

Yesterday afternoon I trie downloading a 6MB mp3 and it showed it would take over 10 hours on Download accelerator Plus.
