You will need to decide if you want to get prophecy, factions or both. You can also wait till nightfall comes out and only get that. Your link does not really matter, as alot of people play on normal 56k dialup and a few plays on GPRS too.

Fire_Dr@gon, you can easily do a bit of this research yourself.....Google Guildwars would be a good start ;)

I use Edge to play GW... It honestly doesn’t chow your airtime. The thing is when there is an update. Some updates can be as big as 200 MB so yes you could use your GPRS/Edge to play but when doing an update use 56k instead or you can use CSD via your cell phone but the transfer rate is a bit slow....

Hope that answers your question.
;)

If you are going to use GPRS, I would recommend getting a prepaid MTN simcard. You then buy airtime and buy what they call databundles. If for instance you buy 350mb, you only pay R220. If you dont buy data bundles you will pay R2 per mb. Alot cheaper this way.

Prophecy, Factions and the soon to be released Nightfall is all standalone in the sense that you dont need any other chapter to be able to play this game. Most of us however own both of the current ones, and also intend to get Nightfall.

To the guy who said that he must do some research. The internet is a wonderfull thing, as is google. The problem with it is that there is so much crap floating around that it is difficult to find the info if you dont know exactly what you are looking for. There is also the fact that most, if not all of us is South Africans. That, to me at least, means that we are a community. There is nothing wrong in asking for info or help of someone else. Why else do we have these forums?

A little tolerance would go a long way.

I would advise you rather wait a couple of days and wait for Nightfall to be released on the 27th.

Prophecies was a great game but Nightfall just promises to be all that much better.

Each chapter is entirely standalone - so you can start with Nightfall at no disadvantage at all.
I never got Factions, but have been playing Prophecies on and off for the last year or so.
I think Nightfall is going to be the best one yet.

The thing about only getting one is that you lose out on alot of skills. I personally would recommend that you get all of them. If you are cash strapped get Nightfall, since most people will migrate to there.

So its almost like 3 different games?

I think i'll wait 4 nightfall, but first i have to find out more about nightfall, coz i heard factions is more difficult than proficies, and since i never played a MMO before i think its better to learn everything first.
but its probably like a normal RPGs, only the fact that its online makes some difference, right?

Some info for Fire Dragon

Hi Fire Dragon

As a "noobie" (new player) i hope this info will help you.

I got Factions first, but it wasn't long before I went out and got Prophesies - the freinds I made were most often in Prophesies and I got fed up with not being able to go there.

Travel:
Prophesies takes place on a continent called Tyria and Factions takes place on a continent called Cantha (Nightfall will be on another continent of it's own too). Chars (characters) "born" in either continent can "travel" to the other one if you have the relevant game, and the same will apply to Nightfall chars.

Skills:
Each game has a set of skills you aquire (either through quests or "buying" them at Skills Trainers) as your char progresses. Prophesies has a unique set of skills you can only "learn" there, and Factions introduced more skills that you can only "learn" there - Nightfall will also introduce new skill sets for all chars. SO if you make a PvE (Player verses Environment - role-playing) char, then you will at some stage want to "learn" the skill sets of all the continents.

PvP skills:
PvP (Player verses Player - such as Alliance Battles, Guild verses Guild Battles etc) chars are different - you create a level 20 char straight away. You can only use the skills that your PvE char has "unlocked" in normal gameplay - so there is the huge incentive to play through the PvE game and get the skills (this is also why there is such a thing called "skill capping" (skill capturing) from Elite Bosses). BUT now you can buy "Skill Unlock" packs for these PvP chars (currently only the Prophesies skills, but I think they will bring out the unlock packs for Factions skills when Nightfall get well underway).

Other reasons for all the games:
Personal reasons; I personally have a love/hate relationship with Factions - I hate the city areas of Kaineng, but love Shing Jea Island. I like Tyria - so I end up spending most of my time there helping others with quests and missions.
Friends: You will make friends and probably join a guild; most players will have all the games and spend time on all the continents and you will probably want to join them at some stage.
Weapons: there are some really good low level char weapons on Shing Jea Island to pick up, also a really good weapons master in Maatu Keep in Kaineng. I suppose that Nightfall will have the equivalent, but until I find them I will use these to equip my new Nightfall chars.

Noobs (HEY - you were ALL noobies once!!):
I love helping people learn the ropes so I enjoy "noobies" - you will find a lot of ppl will yell NOOB at you if you do something silly - so ignore them LOL. At mission outposts you will also see guys LFP (Looking for Players) or LFG (Looking for Groups) who say "No Noobs" - ignore them too LOL. In Nightfall everyone will be Noobs anyway!!!

Fire Dragon - if you want any help or info or just want someone to go questing with, then give me a whisper ingame once you are online and I will be happy to help you out..... ingame name "Friday For Life"

How to "whisper": press the "N" key on your keyboard, a window will pop up. In the slot which says "type name here of friend you wish to add" type the ingame name of the person you wish to contact. Their name will now appear on a list below the slot. This will show if they are online or not. If they are online then click on the little icon in front of their name and a small drop down menu will appear - click on "send a whisper to so-and-so". This will bring up your "chat window" on the bottom left of your screen in the "whisper" mode - type your message and hit enter!!

Keep well, Fight well and Happy Farming
Friday
