It switches on your behalf when it detects it cannot maintain the signal for whatever reason.
It should be seemless to you, albeit you might notice the speed difference
AFAIK, 3G is superior to EDGE, EDGE is better than GPRS again.
but HSDPA is better than 3G (or so they say )

Now if I can just start to get playing...
Damn downloading is hard with a poor 56K...
First I downloaded the game files (that 2000 files) da next day I finished it rather using my phone.. the day after that my dad lended his connection again..so I made my account, created my charr, and....
downloaded more files for the game which also took a while... but I stopped that too at 43 files remaining (due to downloading slowing down after a while, mostly going to 0kb/s LOL) gonna finish that again rather with my phone (poor airtime)

If possible I would definitely suggest a faster connection, it just makes everything so much better.
Don't you have any friends playing that can maybe give their updated gw.dat file to you?
This way you wont have to do any updates.

I have suggested a faster connection to my dad, like adsl coz imo 56k will actually be more expensive and frustrating if you think about it, like for instance the fact the we keep getting diconnected..

but money isn't exactly a strong point..
but im (hopefully) gonna go work with him next week and then i can help pay, i have suggested it.

on the point of friends playing the game..
1st of all they don't have sufficient PC's, 2nd they're not that much into gaming (don't like "wasting" money on games), but they remove me from my PC to play NFS MW or the one plays a bit UT2004 and BF2 too.
my other friend has the same PC like I have (except a Gcard) but he would't touch a RPG (stupid), nor pay R300 for a game (plus internet)..

PS: oh and how do you take a screenshot in the game? I did it but don't know how i did it LOL

ADSL is definitely cheaper in the long run because of no call charges, not to mention better latency and less disconnects.

You don't need a super high performance pc to play Guild Wars. I almost wanna say if you can play Solitaire, you can play Guild Wars

If it is not working you can specify it under the options tab when pressing F11.
Doing a Shift + Prnt Scrn will hide the GUI, so you get a clean shot of the game world (this means without the skillbar, party window, radar, etc.)

i did it that way twice (or three or four) but pasted it in paint and saved it as a image...
bt in the game dir under the screens folder theres only one pic

ADSL is a "permanently on" data line. You don't dial up like with 56k and such. Hence no call charges.
However, when you get an ADSL line installed you get a normal analogue telephone line with it (no choice), which you do pay rental on (R87.65 ex VAT / month). You can also hook a normal phone up to this and make normal phone calls which of course you will pay for (like a normal telephone line), but as far as the ADSL line goes, it is permanently on so you don't pay for time spent on the line, which is the case on 56k because the call you are making is a normal analogue telephone call.
You will use the ADSL line to play games and transfer data, not the telephone line.

Ye, print screen on your keyboard. If it aint working make sure it is swicthed on to do screen caps in your game options. You get to the options by pressing F11.
You also have the option to switch off the status when doing a screen cap,
"Saved image to c:\guild wars\screens\image001.bmp"

No, they don't mention the analogue rental there, that's why I mentioned it.
You must work it in, coz you will be paying for it. This is also one of those things charged by Telkom which is making people very unhappy.
All in all your account should come to R340, vat incl.

Once-off installation amount is R437.50. Self install is R245.80. Don't know how this process works though.

This is only the TELKOM part. Now you still need an ISP account to connect to the ADSL network with.
This you get from the different ISP's: Webafrica, SAIX, Telkom, IS, Axxess, etc.
I can recommend WebAfrica, they are very good and you can by prepaid bundles, plus your cap carries over to the next month. I think price is R125 / gb. It gets cheaper if you buy more.

3GB is more than enough. I doubt you will even get to 1GB in a month (playing a lot!), unless they make big updates, like the Nightfall release for instance.

So, adding it up means you will get away with less than R500 / month. I know people who have higher telephone accounts for normal use, not even using it for Internet yet.
