Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here is a picture of the new HD PVR from Pace

tds850.jpg

Watch and record high definition video with a Pace TDS850 HD PVR set-top box.

The next stage in HD set-top box technology, the TDS850 comes with H.264 compression and triple tuners for the ultimate HD experience.

Dual DVB-S2 tuners enable the user to watch one channel while recording another or record two channels while watching stored content. The third tuner is DVB-S compliant to enable a dedicated push-VOD service and enhanced electronic programming guide (EPG).

The 250Gb hard drive allows up to 60 hours of HD – or 120 hours of standard definition – content to be stored, with optional upgrades available.

HDCP is used for secure transfer of digital signals to the display via HDMI, while the auto set-up function enables easy and quick configuration with most display types.
SUMMARY

* High definition H.264 personal video recorder
* Triple tuners – two DVB-S2 and one DVB-S
* Supports push-VOD
* 250Gb hard drive for 60-120 hours of stored content
* Watch one channel and record another
* Record two and watch one stored programme

SOFTWARE

* DiSEqC 2.0 compatible
* Range of middleware, CA and customisation options available
* Picture-in-picture capabilities
* Software download via Satellite Into FLASH memory supported

ooh, cool looking box. wonder what it'll cost?

Guess my PVR will go straight to the bin then, minus the HDD off course. I don't suppose Multichoice will offer a trade in?

That HDD must be worst for wear though depending on how long you've had it - recording buffer all day long...

Anyone know where you can actually buy these?

Got usual crap from multi-choice and gave up on their customer care / aka hold-forever line

For me it's more a question of "why buy a SD PVR now an HD one is out". We don't have a PVR yet and I've been holding off specifically until the HD ones come out. So sadly, even if in reality it's cheap and plasticy, we'll be getting one.

They start broadcasting the Olympics on an HD channel starting tomorow(Friday 8/8/8-Nice date) and I got mine at Game.

A few accessories will also be required if you have a dual LNB: a two to six or eigh(if you have an SD PVR) multiswitch(R500 at spacetv.co.za) and some cables.
If you have the LNB installed you can do it yourself without a hassle.

Not sure if I understand correctly but it seems the new HD PVR is not a dual view unless used with a 1110 decoder. This is called Xtraview by DSTV.

Is this correct?

Yes it is correct, but is currently also not working(due date November by the sound of it)

They are currently broadcasting the Brazil versus Belgium match from the Olympics and the picture quality is absolutely astounding.

Also the sound seems to be surround.

Absolutely brilliant!

Been reading the DSTV forums - seems as if the software is very buggy. Has put me off getting one for the time being.

Cost of HD PVR at present is R2500 and installation costs an additional
R1500. I wonder if the price will go up or come down in time.

I also believe that Multichoice will only have one channel on HD TV to start with , SABC will have 3. In time all channels will become HDTV as the material available will be done in HDTV

You can now buy the decoder for R2200 and if you already have multiview(ie dual LNB) you can do it yourself for R500(Multi splitter)
