Please be informed that as of 4 August 2005, we will be making a new package available. There will be a media launch on 4 August 2005.

The package is called "i-Go" and has the following characteristics:

500MB Cap. Following the cap, there will be no network access.
Top up capacity of 500MB for R139 and 1GB for R229 is available.
This package is R299 Incl VAT per month and is available on Month to Month only.
Available for both UTD and UTC.
Activation fee is R114 as per other packages.
Being a Month to Month contract, subscribers can up or downgrade as per usual.
A limited offer of R1699 Incl VAT for the UTC is being offered in conjunction with this package for the months of August and September (but also available on all other packages).

its cheap... but not if you factor in no network access after cap and R139 for 500MB

I guess theres someone out there with a use for this... might be better than 3G if you plan to be mobile in covered areas

Cheaper than Sentechs' offerings on both the monthly and per Meg after cap. Hopefully if there is a substantial uptake, it will help justify the reduction of prices across the board.

Good to see Sentech and iBurst are offering lower-cap, lower-price options. In other countries they have been doing that for a while so this is a positive thing.

To expensive

iBURST would up there user base in subscription if they allow network access.

This would be the cheapest product but still for R299 per month it aint worth it.. 500 meg can go fast already i used 200 meg just on web surf alone up 2 now seen flash website.

Come iBURST be more friendly and allow network access!!!

then they up the price and you're back to square 1, look at the name of the package, its not supposed to be a primary connection, its only supposed to compete with mobile packages like 3g

Yeah, I know Slimothy still expensive.
Then for that i rather sign up with wdsl if they were in JHB.
I know it's cheaper i get your point but 500 meg to little if they could allow 1 gig at throttle speed. Then after that no more network access then yes. It would be ok by my books.

but look at this all of these package are throttle after you reach the CAP.

1 gig cost you R469
3 gig cost you R599
6 gig cost you R899
9 gig cost you R1099

the whole point is that its not for people who reach the cap, but if they should they can get more, 469 for 1GB is cheaper than 500 for 1gb on 3g... THATS THE POINT

I don't think its expensive, I just don't fall into the market that would need something like this. I'd rather have WBS recovering costs for infrustructure from the bottom than from the top

yeah, this is not that expensive at all.

R500 for 1gig on 3G
R438 for 1 gig on i-go (R299 for 500meg + R139 for 500meg topup)

Big bonus though, you get 1meg throughput (most of the time) as suppose to 384K from 3G

lol seriously, 500MB.. thats roughly 17MB / day.. Come on, this is crap.

ps. it clearly reads R299 for 500MB not R229.. so R299 + R139 = R438

Not much cheaper than 3G plus with 3G you would have much better roaming than isuck.

well clipse, its what people asked for, for light usage I can recall and probably search a bunch of posts where this was asked for, and now its here and it is good news.. look hardly anyone on these forums would go for this because hardly anyone on these forums uses that little (but its still faster and cheaper than 3g)

what i also recall being asked for were uncapped packages and high cap packages, so hopefully someone out there is reading.

I agree with Slimothy.

If I only look at websites and send and receive e-mails, the usage comes to roughly 4 - 10 mb.
Now if this is all you use it for, then I think it's perfect.

Not to mention for pure gaming this is ideal. Pure MMORPG gaming that is, where lag is not so much of an issue.
My total download / upload is below 500MB a month for City of Heroes. So as long as you don't download anything and get kicked off, you got a 24/7 game running.

Personaly I need to download, but I can imagine this would be a nice package for parents to sponsor for their gaming addicted kids. A nice flat fee and if junior decides to download pron, he kills his cap.

I really dont wanna piss on anyones parade, but 192k adsl + 2gig account can cost you around R420 and thats 1.5gig more than this iburst offering and a hell of alot more reliable.

The point im trying to make, this is a step backwards for consumers and more money into iburst pockets. Positive? I THINK NOT. If we can keep on blaming telkom for backward steps, why not do the same with iburst and this offering? As we have also done with Mywireless and their latest offering, which is so backwards that even caveman Ogg would not understand it.

hate to p1ss on your parade but the name 'iGo' sums it up pretty well I woulda thought.... ITS AIMED AT MOBILE PEOPLE, also you might have noticed the utc is cheaper with this offer, well thats the laptop modem... so.. err.. ye

the 192kbit you suggest instead of this was a backward step for telkom was it not? people ASKED for this and now they GOT it. its that simple in my eyes, a nice cheaper package for light use and it just adds to choice. I have no prob with WBS making money, they are a business afterall and the faster they recover costs the faster they drop prices accross the board. and again its aimed at your 3g/edge/light broadband market... not everything that comes out needs to be twisted into an adsl discussion and remember adsl isnt available everywhere, wireless can be

Also as far as getting new people on the internet goes this basically kills alot of the other solutions even telkoms ones because its cheaper, its faster and its actually in places like daveyton and soweto where telkom doesnt care to go.. its a good step, just not somethign I will be getting

I mean from your point of view or mine we want more bandwidth for our money which is why i asked about higher cap packages and you mentioned you can get 1.5GB more with adsl or whatever but what you didnt bother to do is think of the consumer who feels ripped off right now because they download 300MB but are paying for a 3Gb or 1GB account, so if this is a backwards step for consumerism as you put it them im tripping on acid.

In my eyes more choice is never a bad thing and btw, iburst in australia offer a 500mb package too

I see WBS advertises UTD or UTC for 1699 for iGo until 30 September on frontpage but normal UTD price with the packages

Flashing: R1699 (Laptop or desktop modem)

I might opt for iGo, because I hardly use more than 400MB a month.

With the R300 saving, I can go for a steak every second weekend!
