Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says green ID books "must go as a matter of urgency" because they are "contaminated" by criminals.
-
Mapisa-Nqakula had in the past admitted to "chronic corruption" in the department, which has lost three directors-general in the past four years as financial mismanagement compounded the problem.

She announced late last year that more than 60 employees were either fired, arrested, suspended or facing disciplinary and criminal action.

Duh, but the ID book is the problem?!

If I remember correctly, the Special Assignment false ID's were actually "legal" according to the Internal Affairs database.

The fakes included faking an entry on the database.

It is not the ID Book that is contaminated, but the whole population register

All they are going to achieve is to issue genuine ID's based on fake entries - thus legalising illegal Id's.

How do all those societies without ID's books manage to exist? I'd probably be more receptive to the idea of actually getting one if I could see the need of having one. The system is so obviously flawed that it is worthless.

Arent they able to decern when the entry was make I mean, our ID's where computerised some time ago, wouldnt it cause alarm bells if an ID number just appeared out of nowhere?

Possibly we need to do an Amnesty for illegal immigrants in SA and legalise them so that they arent exploited.

SA without ID books would make ID fraud a nightmare, Im surprised it hasnt picked up, in the UK all you need is a phone bill / bank statement to open up an account anywhere, and they have dumpster divers who hunt through ur mail for unshredded personal information... now imagine if the criminals could get a loan with one piece of paper out of your bin.

Gav, I think you've been lucky up to now.

Bwana, I bet you have another form of ID?

I'm remined of the bloke who held a dept. employee hastage to get his ID book. If only he had spoken to you guys first, he wouldn't be in so much crp now.

Plenty of them. I dont usually carry anything more than an UK drivers license with me though.

EDIT - I lie - I do carry my firearms licenses - does that count?

How about a direct disconnect between brain and mind; 'we' have a brain but no mind. As in "we don't mind, you can be as corrupt as you want - in fact we positively encourage it."

(in fact, let's get new id books instead of 'let's get honest.')
