When you can offer lower latency and more stability for no more than R5/GB then and only then do you have something to be proud about.

I will be giving this a shot.

Exciting news for WoW players indeed.

Should be nice, since I am paying R250 for a 3Gb 27Gb Sattelite connection at the moment that renders playing Guild Wars impossible and Eve Online possible (since it isnt too affected by latency). R50/Gb isnt bad all things considering - and more importantly : Is this the beginning of the landslide of pricing on the SAT 3 / SAFE cable that is due to be un-monopolised on 1st November? It will be interesting to see what happens

I thought South Africa needed to get away from the per gig cost structure?
Secondly, IS can't even provide proper ADSL to their current customers, how on earth do the expect to offer this to even more people?

You know, we are on both Verizon and SAIX unshaped atm and both of them are dog slow during office hours. Makes me wonder if there isn't some ghost shaping going on.

So if you can buy shaped/unshaped BW at R50 a gig instead of say, R125, and have the same performance I will definitely be interested.

If it is offered with 30gb local, then great. If not, then they will have to seriously undercut SAIX to overcome the current poor perception of IS bandwidth. SAIX is already available below R50/Gb.

It is lamentable that Telkom introduced per-gig billing. Its just as lamentable that their only competition now feels the need to follow suit. The only hope we can have is that competition fuels further price reductions.

Gimmie! 1GB for GW & int websites and the rest for IS, SGS & Gamezone :D
Unfortunately we are still stuck in the per/GB basis... can't we have 10GB local 10Int??

Exciting news for WoW players indeed.

"IS says that users requiring lower latencies for certain applications, like online gaming, can expect to experience latency of half (or even less) the current international latency on satellite."

The current international latency on satellite (IS's current accounts) is what, anywhere between 800-2000ms? Sounds more like it'll compete with SAIX's unshaped offerings for the 500-800ms ping range rather than being the next big thing with regards to int'l latency.

Though SAIX's international latency is SO crap lately, if this offers a return to the 400-500ms glory days I'd definitely be interested too.

Hmm, I didn't notice that part of the sentence tbh. That can only be because my brain doesn't really function properly until around 10:00am.

You are quite right though :

1. the mere mentioning of satelite and online gaming in the same sentence is preposterous.

2. I would change my unshaped SUX account back to shaped and get 2GB of this if it could deliver a consistent 400 - 500ms in WoW.

I'm not a big gamer anymore. What else is unshaped during off-peak good for? Can I download stuff that I could not before?

My thoughts exactly. :)

But, until uncapped 8mbps at around R200pm SA is still lagging what is available.

Sounds Promising

I'll even be happy with what im paying now per GB to IS, and I'll even pay a monthly rate for premium news server access, I reckon up to R500 is fair for prioritized binary access at full line speed when cached...

FINALLY! something to play guild wars on :p i'd gladly try this over R129 pm for a 1gb unshaped acc. @ korval, LOCAL was FREE, now they capping local n making money out of it, so much for improving ADSL bandwidth, untill they uncap, unshape and make local bandwidth free, R500pm for dling local is NOTHING to write home about =p
