Telkom, the days are fast approaching where you will be relegated to irrelevance.
What amazes me is that they are destroying their reputation. Totally blind to fact that reputation is important for long term business.

The joke is that by limiting p2p one now streams the same video at much more data usage.
So if you cant torrent or stream? What do you use lte for? Normal browsing for which a cheaper adsl can cater with p2p free after midnight on most adsl plans.

I have access to 40mbps vdsl.

Telkom fibre is being installed as well but when fibre will be available is unknown.

I am still "shaped" today. I have reported the issue to Telkom, and they, as usual are taking their sweet time replying. At one stage they asked me "what my usage was", this is after they were aware of my contract being Uncapped. This is a clear sign of them knowing that the throttling is in place, and to avoid actually answering any questions about it, they just ignore you when they find out that you are on the package.

I also went to a friend up the road today with my modem, he connects to another tower in my area, and it seems that even connected to his tower, my speeds did not change. This is a clear sign that my number attached to the Sim card has been flagged as throttled.

Telkom responded to a tweet of mine saying "Hi,the ping points to the network working fine though.Which LTE deal are you on?Have you checked your usage as yet?^BF".

Overall this whole story is extremely unethical. To change a contract set in stone, and then to not stipulate what governs as AUP at all, rather let the consumers discover that their cap is for their "Uncapped" service. Don't know how you all feel about this, but I am pissed. We are now, most of us, only 12 months into a contract that will have severe penalties financially if we cancel it. We are now using a complete different service to what we had in the first place, paying the same amount, and are tied to it by law. Pity they think they are not tied to the law enough to change things like this.

Breach of contract. There was no meeting of minds as you relied on their marketing which states clearly no capping or throttling on streaming.

They really know how to lose clients .

Request them for original old AUP as it clearly was limited to p2p.

The biggest concern is the complete lack of communication. You cannot just send an SMS to customers to say you are implementing something, with no clear sign of data or usage restrictions. If we knew, then we could have put some sort of data plan in place. What am I saying, we should not have to do anything of the sorts as the AUP should not have been put into place originally.

I agree fully. I would not have cancelled my adsl line or given up my vox promo with 600gb. Now have to go through the schlep of getting adsl line and an isp. Considering the afrihost options but want my own telkom adsl line so I can switch. Bundle is however cheaper.

Its a unilateral amendment of the contract. Check the consumer protection act and what it says. Too tired and lazy to read up tonight. Been a looong day.
Report it to ICASA because telkom infrastructure clearly failed in delivering. Also Advertising standards authority as they specifically marketed it as uncapped and unthrottled. This is not the same as original uncapped case but once again read up the case.
Will read these tomorrow.

I did the same thing. We have crap copper cables that gave us max 3mb line, and no sign of fiber. This package was the best thing to ever happen to internet in my area, as I am sure thousands of others. I am sure thousands cancelled their past packages too. They have made their money by selling out in every suburb, now they can screw everyone over.
