For me somewhere near the 5th my speed degraded to 4mb. I tested every common tcp port and noticed that they all restricted at that speed except for TCP 554 which ironically is used for RTSP streaming normally which seemed to have some QOS policy applied to it as it always performed badly.

Around the 7th it degraded to between 256k to 512k all connections. It is still the case and remains as such, i copy paste these replies as it often times out when posting and i have to redo the same post several times.

Can you get him to download GTA V a couple of times so we can confirm that the pattern holds true? :D

He is just over 100GB. I was kind of hinting for him to please increase whatever is he doing, but I think he is playing it safe now, as the chances of him being in the same boat as us, are pretty high.

There is no network issues. Its telkom screwing with people. Look at my test: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/841006-Telkom-Throttling-LTE?p=18297772#post18297772

You download anything from anywhere and I get 300kbps. On my 1 specific ssl connection i still get 3mbps and not 300kbsp. This shows that data is being throttled. This ssl did no go against my FUP since I started my LTE 2 months ago. For testing I dumped 150gb in a queue to download. Next day i was throttled to 128kbps so now this ssl connection is somewhat FUP and the rest not. I think twlkom is applying rules as you download. The call center also mentioned that I was connected for more than 24 hours so it shows 2 connections. Wtf...

Anyway, i got someone who wanted the lte to take over my contract. Going to 20mv dsl 100gb account with uncapped from 12 to 7. Used this on a 10mb account and got around 800gb per month. So will stick to this again.

Which plan and isp?

I need a speed and cap for netflix streaming. P2p not required.

Yeah, think I'm going to have to sell mine soon too. Fibre roll out imminent. But it's been imminent for the last year or so!! Needs to happen soon!! I'm throttled to 4Mbps, just hit 200gb usage for the month. Cancelled my 10Mb adsl line effective end of July, ruing that decision now.

EDIT: I have a 5gb Telkom capped account for redundancy and it's running at 50Mbps so this is definitely a usage related throttle.

Telkom said it would manage accounts only if it was impacting other users internet experience but this is systematic throttling based on a fixed usage total. Got nothing to do with managing peak/off peak congestion.

Why not cancel based on breach of contract. I will get adsl or vdsl and cancel debit order for LTE.

So I just tested a torrent quick, and it hit 2.5mbps. So my usual speed is 256kbps, but P2P is not being shaped. What kind of circus are they running there?

I fear the only chance one might have at getting any answers whatsoever, would be to pay a less than friendly visit to the Telkom Mobile HQ. Think they're somewhere in or around Centurion? I might just swing by in the week...

Looks like i will need to switch exclusively to HEVC content to make it through the month. Staying under 200-250gigs is going to be tough.

I can confirm that I hit 250GB last night, and this morning my speeds are very slow. Another friend of mine hit 250GB on Sunday and he has had slow connection since then too.

As mentioned before, I can confirm that I am in the same boat as Cocomelts and a few others on here.

After 200 GB, there was a decline in the service to just under 4 Mbps (checked my obsessive use of Speedtest.net for confirmation).

After hitting 250 GB, the service became throttled to 256kbps. Essentially unusable, with most pages timing out.

The primary issue is how Telkom have misrepresented this service. They lied to us about it.

I signed up for a service that would "NEVER" throttle protocols for web browsing, gaming, video streaming etc. And from February to August, the service worked as advertised.

I did not sign up for a 250 GB "soft cap" to 256kbps, which goes directly against what the service is supposed to offer.

I was more than happy with Neotel's 10Mbps service and the associated 1 TB FUP (after 1 TB, speed is halved). It was clear, upfront and met the needs of my family.

I only cancelled because of the speeds, promises and the price of Telkom's "Uncapped" LTE.

My sister is a lawyer and I spoke to her about this new T&C's she said unless they originally stated in the original contract that they may change the T&C's may they do this otherwise if they change the t&c's both parties have to agree on it. So she said all that needs to happen is someone must take them to the consumer court as they are not allowed to do this. Just giving my addon to this all

I have listed a complaint over on Hello Peter (https://www.hellopeter.com/telkom/reviews/uncapped-lte-lies-2101130) . I even paid to supercharge it, that is how determined I am to destroy this latest quest of Telkom's. I suggest everyone having issues similar to this, go and do the same thing. With enough customers complaining about this, it will be hard for them to ignore us. They either come up with some sort of reasonable plan for this, or they let us cancel without any penalties. They should also be fined for this.

Good Day

Hope the e-mail finds you well.

In relation to your inquiry with regards to the LTE service, please note that indeed the service is meant for streaming, however high data consumption compromises the experience of fellow users and it also results in one consuming more data than the set monthly rental.

Unlimited can be interpreted in such a way that you are not restricted to any volume of data, however consumption should be at a reasonable rate, hence the Fair User Policy is applied if the usage patterns suggests negligence or excessive data usage.

250GB over 20 days, or 250GB over 5 days, is still 250GB. He is making it sound like they are less harsh on you if you use your 250GB in three weeks. You will still be shaped when you hit that, regardless of how long it takes.
