This is where I think Apple are missing a massive opportunity and Windows is going to beat them to it.
This thing should have been a 12-inch iPad that runs iOS, but then when you dock it to a keyboard it switches to OSX.
THAT is the device I want and the reason I'm switching to Windows 10 the moment new tablets comes out with it supported.
I dunno- how well have those convertible devices actually done? If you look at the launch of this year's line of ultrabooks, the number of these hybrids has dropped immensely. I really don't think that Windows 10 will change that dynamic for a while still, and when it does, Apple will have already begun implementing a solution that works properly.
I used to carry a 13-inch Macbook every day and an iPad. I would much rather have carried a 12-inch iPad and an iPad only, but when I got to the office I could do real work OSX style. It would be the perfect solution.
To be fair, you're getting this with the new MacBook, for the most part. After considering what the use case for this product would be, IMO it's an iPad + MacBook combination sans touchscreen, which it doesn't need because OSX gestures are already pretty damn good and Force Touch is similar in many respects to current touchscreen haptic feedback. This is effectively the iPad Pro that everyone has been asking for- it already has the productivity apps, the battery life and screen estate, the portability and ease of use built in.
I for one, really like it.
